FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, April 14, 2004
Tempe, Arizona—A home-opener against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, mid-November contests against the N.Y. Giants and N.Y. Jets, and a season-finale vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers highlight the home portion of the Arizona Cardinals’ 2004 schedule.
Under first-year Head Coach Dennis Green, the Cards open the season on the road Sunday, September 12 against NFC West division rival St. Louis, and return home on Sunday, September 19 to face the Patriots, winners of two of the past three Super Bowls. A home encounter against the New Orleans Saints on October 3 is sandwiched around road outings at Atlanta (September 26) and at San Francisco (October 10), after which the club is scheduled for its open date (October 17).
The Cardinals return to play when the Seattle Seahawks visit the Valley on October 24, then face cross-country road games three of the next four weekends at Buffalo (October 31), at Miami (November 7), and at defending AFC champion Carolina (November 21). The month of November fills out with attractive home contests against the N.Y. Giants on November 14 and the N.Y. Jets on November 28, Thanksgiving weekend.
December greets the Cardinals with a road assignment at Detroit (December 5) and consecutive home contests against NFC West foes San Francisco (December 12) and St. Louis (December 19).
Following a trip to Seattle to face the Seahawks on December 26, Arizona
concludes regular-season play at Sun Devil Stadium on January 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 2004 home schedule includes three “piggyback” weekends at Sun Devil Stadium with Arizona State University—September 18/19 (University of Iowa/New England Patriots), October 23/24 (UCLA/Seattle Seahawks), and November 13/14 (Washington State University/N.Y. Giants).
The Cardinals’ entire 2004 regular-season schedule follows. The preseason schedule, which will be announced at a later date, sends Green and his first Arizona squad to Minnesota to face the Vikings the first weekend (August 12–16), followed by home games against the San Diego Chargers (August 19–23) and Oakland Raiders (August 26–30).
Arizona concludes the preseason with a trip to Denver to face the Broncos (September 2–5).
