If Edson Buddle doesn't start opposite of Altidore, I'm sending Bob Bradley a nastygram.

Germany's fun to watch, I personally hope they get matched up vs the US, it would be a hell of a game to watch

Because he failed the putback?

The guy kills more chances than he creates/finishes

Because he was physical, dictating play, and causing havoc with his runs.

I'll agree with you with his finishing ability thus far. He plays more like a winger than a striker.

I actually don't mind him on the wings, but in the middle, he tends to attack the defender and because he isn't the greatest with the ball at his feet, he loses it more than wins. Buddle is more of a technician on the ball. Jozy did do a great job of coming to the ball and trapping.

That said, I was disappointed by Gomez today but heartened by Buddle, so hopefully BB goes with Buddle instead of Findley in the next game.

Yeah I'm no soccer expert by any means but Gomez was not impressive to me at all.

I have to add, in the first half Donovan had essentially 3 chances to score, not easy chances but legit shots on goal, and he hit all 3 of them directly to the goalie, 2 of them didn't even have much on them.

Earlier in the cup the ESPN experts were saying that in his past Donovan tends to get too cute with shots and needs to just blast the ball in sometimes. It seems like he's taking that too much to heart because he seemed to be thinking I'm just going to drill it hard and hope it goes in when it seems some of the great goal scorers are able to just place the ball where the goalie can't get it?

Even his critical goal against Slovenia he basically kicked it right at the goalie, luckily he ducked. Or is that what they teach you to do?

Anyhow when we really needed it he put it away

I'll disagree with that one. The goalie did flinch, but he blasted that ball and equally placed it above the keeper. One of the best goals of the tournament in a bad, bad angle.

I was a little upset but not shocked when Gomez got the start over Buddle as he went to Gomez first in the prior game. That said, I saw nothing from Gomez and Buddle made an impact right away.

Bornstein might have been my man of the match if it weren't for Donovan's heroics. He played a great game.

Donovan of course with Altidore/Bornstein tied for 2nd.

That was one of the most dramatic sports events I've ever seen. It was impossible to not tear up with pride.

Also, I don't understand the Altidore hatred. Yes, he is not the most skilled guy around, but he has created multiple chances every game with his size and speed. And while he hasn't put one in the net, I don't think the US would've advanced without him.

I think maybe a few more centimeters and the ball against England that went off the post wins that match. In that case, he'd undoubtedly be a hero.

Exactly, it's ridiculous. Altidore was the best player on the pitch for us, and he's been great at holding up and drawing free kicks the entire tourney. HE'S ALSO 20 YEARS OLD!!! He's going to be a good one for a long time.

It went from being so underwhelming to elation in a split second. I initially thought they called Dempsey for a foul because I expected the goal to be disallowed again.

Don't most strikers miss WAY more than they make? How many goals does Rooney have this WC?

I don't think Rooney has had many opportunities though, to be fair.

Nobody is saying that he isn't going to be good. He's definitely young and has a lot of potential, but he's not a very good striker right now. He'll probably get better, but he just isn't right now.

Yeah, true. Just addressing the concern that he misses more than creates/finishes.

Who cares, scoreboard. USA is advancing. I love you all!!!!

I was just discussing the game with a friend who made the comment that he didn't understand what all the fuss was about Edu. I finally figured out he thought Edu was Freddy Adu!

We sure could use a clever player who can play in the middle and create opportunities, Dempsey seems to be a guy who comes up looking to finish, not a guy who creates for others?

I've just about calmed down now. Bogus calls again but who cares. The boys showed fighting spirit in all the games and deserve to top the group.

I have flicked through the thread and already I see slinslin acting like the snob he is. I really cannot get the attitude where he is god of all football knowledge and his word is final. Whoever gets to the knockout stages deserves to be there. When you start calling on past history when each tournament is 4 years apart that makes no sense.

Bulgaria and Romania were brilliant in 1994 WC. They are nowhere now, but they played well enough and were strong enough at the time to make it. England have looked good for one game, Germany the same. Lets not get carried away with how many finals you have been in.

I don't care who we face. If we have to play Germany then lets get revenge for 2002 I say!

So what. He is Rooney. He should be able to create something. He has misses for sure. So, without any makes, he has missed more than he had made.

:)
Exactly. If he really wants to be considered one of the top 3 in the World he has to play better than he has done.
