The post season is still going but time to start looking at what needs to be done to build on this season's surprise success.
What I would do:
1. Trade Zack Greinke - His post season numbers proved he is not worth paying over $30M a year going forward. Yes he won 17 games but when the games really counted he folded like an accordion. A big money team may be willing to take him on thinking he can have a Justin Verlander effect on their team. Theoretically, ARZ has 5 SP's they go with if they deal Greinke (Ray, Corbin, Godley, Walker & Bradley), of course they would have to improve the bull pen to fill Bradley's spot but relievers are usually cheaper than SP's. ARZ needs to start scouting SP's better in the draft to start building up the farm.
2. Sign a LF - ARZ would love to re-sign Martinez but if they cannot deal Greinke or Martinez demands come to rich, ARZ needs to find a replacement. A guy who could possibly be had on a reasonable deal is Carlos Gonzalez (former D'Back prospect). He had a down year compared to his career averages and turns 32 next month or a guy like Jay Bruce would provide some pop to the lineup. Would love to have him if Martinez bolts.
3. Solve 3B Question - Is Lamb the everyday 3B? His season power numbers were great, his BA really dropped the second half of the season as LHP was his Achilles heel. He had a good post season hitting wise (no HR's or RBI's) batting over .460 in 13 AB's. He's only 27 and its not impossible that with work over the offseason he can learn to hit LHP. Brandon Drury could back him up in a platoon but if ARZ is looking for a permanent solution and are willing to pay (if Martinez & Greinke depart) they could go after Mike Moustakas who is a FA but will command big $$$ even though he is approaching 30 years old.
4. Sign SP or Closer - If Greinke is dealt, the decision on what to do with Bradley will determine the route. Bradley has made it known he wants to start so if ARZ accommodates him they need to replace Rodney as he is a FA. There are a lot of closers that are going to be in the market (Greg Holland, Wade Davis, Francisco Rodriguez) or they can look for SP's or look at the trade market. If you can get a Chris Archer you do it even if you have to gut the farm.
5. Determine Pollock's Future - Pay him or move on. Guy is made of glass so if they feel the risk is to great to take to sign him to a huge deal then deal him now and look for a FA replacement or maybe Anfernee Grier (top OF prospect) will be ready to replace him.
6. Foist Tomas - Find a AL team desperate for a DH willing to just pay his salary, no prospects required in return.
