He's better than what we have.

However, this would essentially eliminate the idea of drafting DeCastro, Scott is 31 years old and we haven't contacted either of the top tackles on the market, according to reports. We need to do something about the edges.

More guards, just what we need

More, guards? Your saying that as if we have a ton of guards.

How many Guards are on the roster besides Colledge and Hadnot?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. He's better than Rex Hadnot because he's a solid starter. Hadnot was good in stretches, but he really dropped off toward the end of the year. And I assume DeCastro would be off the board after signing two FA guards in the last two years. Scott is going to want starter's money.

We like guards light... but 292? Ugh.

According to the scouting report posted earlier, guy has never missed a game to injury and is a passing blocking type guard who gave up a total of 5 sacks in 4 years in Tennessee. His lack of size/weight has clearly been a huge liability for the guy!

Guards are just as important aas Tackles. The QB needs to be able to step up in the pocket, it's the core of passing.

Hadnot as the number one backup at guard and centre creates flexibility on game day.

Depends on the scheme and the blocking style. Denver got away for YEARS with smaller offensive linemen across the board, because they wanted agile guys who could get out on the edge. We want BIG guys at offensive tackle to set the edge, and smaller, more agile guys at OG because they pull to the outside frequently on running plays. The Ravens like big guys across the board (which is why Ben Grubbs isn't on our radar), and the Saints like bigger guys on the interior (which is why Carl Nicks likely isn't, either).

Clearly at some point size does matter. You don't see a lot of 250 lbs offensive linemen. Both Indy and Tennessee use a lot of zone blocking that doesn't force OL to man up on bigger guys. Even more so, the AFC South has lately been a division with smaller defensive linemen.

Bottom line is the guy has started 8 years for two teams that had a lot of success. If his weight was such a liability, it would've been exposed by now, don't ya think?

Besides, he played with Manning, and there is no doubt in my mind this was discussed with him.

You can be the worst offensive lineman on a couple of different teams and still start for 8 years in the NFL. Lyle Sendlein has started 4 straight seasons without being an overpowering player. Derrick Dockery wasn't an overpowering blocker for either the Bills or the Redskins, but he still managed to get paid and start for 7 straight years.

If we're going to look for warm bodies to fill out OL depth, I'd prefer to turn to turn to the draft to do so. I don't need a 30 year old lightweight like Jake Scott who has no future. I need two starting offensive tackles right now.

Well, given the number of sacks and pressures he's given up, I will welcome this "mediocrity" to the Cards.

Overall, I agree with you. Unfortunately, the tackle market sucks. When Levi Brown is the guy with the fewest question marks, that is a problem.

Do you think the Cards haven't done due diligence in watching film on this guy? Overall, I'd say the Cards have done a respectable job in bringing in under the radar types of players since Whisenhunt has been around.
