"ESPN gave Anquan Boldin some national attention prior to its "Monday Night Football" telecast when Chris Mortensen reported Boldin wanted to be traded, and NFL.com did the same"
Sounds to me like it is nothing new. Sounds like a re-tread story from the beginning of camp. If Q wanted a trade a month ago why would he be changing his mind now.
As for this getting uglier? How much more ugly can it get? Really? He has bashed the front office, and coaches publically more than once, and I expect to hear more of it throughout the year. He has done all he can besides holding out and not playing. Furthermore, if he dogs it on the field, Whiz will pull him, and we all know that. So, it seems the two sides have hit a stalemate. Boldin will continue his talking down of the front office, and the front office won't trade him.
From a fan's point of view, we know business is business, but it is always hard to to have sympathy for the plight of a multi-millionaire. But, still the sport is a business, and this is the uglier side of it. He is a player the fans love and it is hard for everyone who is a fan of him to watch him be upset, and hear that he wants out
For me, Anquan Boldin is still one of my favorite players. I see both side of the story and have no comment on it. It is what it is. I will wait untill next preseason to see what happens. If he is traded, fine, if he stays that would be great.
My point being, until next offseason expect to hear "Q wants to be traded" & "Q is uphappy" stories throughout the year.
One last point is the idea that this will effect the team is something I do not agree with at all. This is the NFL, and the players understand it is a business. They are not going to be upset with the Cardinals for not paying Boldin. They are not going to be upset with Boldin for talking about the front office. This happens to teams all around the league (even the mighty Patriots) with no ill effects on the respected teams. Remember the golden rule of the players is to stay out of each others business, especially when it comes to contracts. Plus the Cardinals platers have seen Fitzgerald get paid, Wilson, Dockett, and numerous free agents get paid, so the idea the Cardinals are cheap is pretty much a moot point. Heck, they are probably thinking "More money for me".
So settle in for the long ride through the season on this issue. My advice? Enjoy watching Anquan Boldin play for the Cardinals this season since, in regards to hear and now. He is here to play and win.
Sidenote: I thank my new found love of hockey, for the ability to deal with players that I like to watch being traded.
