First off, remember when Amare was out in 06, just keep that in mind.

This team has Nash,Barbosa,Richardson and Shaq. Shaq is twice the player he was last year. The team has been playing under their level the entire season, true. But take into consideration that Porter's system wasn't near the best option for this team. Call me optimistic, but I believe this team still has a shot at making the playoffs.

If the team did make the playoffs, Amare would supposedly come back in time. Who here would be surprised if he returned even before the estimated 8 weeks? He's known to recover fast, and out of all his injuries (besides the obvious microfracture surgery that would end anyone for a season) he's always been on time and back to 100% within 1-2 games.

With the new system, I think Gentry is just going to tell them to run their balls out, it DOES win games in the regular season, which is what we need. Of course, this will rely a lot on Steve Nash, if Nash can stay healthy then I'm staying optimistic.

I'd like to be optimistic, but I can't say I'm where you are. Remember we also had the MIP in Diaw helping us out in 06 along with Kurt Thomas, and later Tim Thomas. We're going to rely on Shaq more to get some points in the paint, and will probably have to go pretty small with Dudley, and Barnes. Amundson will have to be our backup center as Lopez hasn't shown he can play many minutes.

I hope we can sign another big like Mikki Moore, or Joe Smith if he's bought out, but I don't hold out much hope there.

We have no backup PF essentially on this team. HUGE HUGE difference. I am sorry but there is no optimism unless this team can somehow pick up a Power Forward. Once Shaq goes to the bench, your going to be playing small ball city.

Sucks to be Gentry right now. We need to find another big man.

I will be very surprised if Amare comes back this season. Amare is a wuss. The reason why he "came back" from other "injuries" so fast is because Amare lacks the ability to play hurt. Mostly because he is a wuss. I'm not talking playing injured, but playing hurt. Anyone who is an NFL fan knows exactly what I mean.

I think that the Suns still have a shot, mostly because as you pointed out Shaq is playing great. I just don't think that Amare will come back unless we make the second round and he decided that he really does want a ring.

I am always optimistic, but that has totally been shaken by the recent news. I believe we can win games with our speed and I believe we make the playoffs...

Beyond that I don't know, but anything can happen...

I, for one, am very optimistic. This is a BIG BLOW but we still have Shaq as out main guy. Not to mention Jrich, Barbosa, Hill ... all capable of 20 pts per game., even Nash needs to score more often. They will NEED to step up and I believe they will.
This is not like the Mavericks when Jason Terry out and there is absolutely no one who can fill his points.

do you realize that injury happened in the first and he kept playing until 5 minutes left in the fourth? A wuss would have been out the second it happened. He played the whole damn game with one eye and scored 42

I am optimistic only because I believe Dudley will shine with this opportunity.

One of the worst posts I have ever seen.

Give me all the injuries Amare has been a wuss with and hasnt played through.

Give me a list of all these misc games he misses.

My understanding of this type of injury is that it is usually painless. Playing with a detatched retina just risks possible blindness. Now there may be some discomfort as a result of the surgery, but my understanding of that is also that it is painless.

People diagnosed with detatched retinas usually just have vision problems like darkness or abundance of "floaters".

This organization is snake bitten with injury curse or something. How long has it been since there hasnt been a key injury to a rotation player, usually a starter? Optimistic was the suns getting to the second round BEFORE amare's injury. Now its just silliness. Yeah we will get to see how good sweet lou really is. Poor lou will now be expected to pick up the slace for amare, ughhh. I think we'll see alot more robin lopez, ughhh, I cant bear to watch.

Who will start in place of Amare anyway? Are we going to have a lineup of Nash, JRich, Barnes, Hill, Shaq? I think that would be okay.

I'm not sure we can survive the season without an additional big. We are terribly thin up front. Only Shaq and Amundson now, Amundson is not starter quality at all. Do they count on Sims to play?

i remember when wade got his shoulder hurt, the heat still did well. it was something like 15-4 or something if i remember it right and they made the playoffs as one of the top 4 seeds (they got swept in the first round though)

The season is over but I hope it ends with some small ball shoot lights out fun! I'd bench Shaq for the nonsense he pulled today as well. I'm sick of the drama. I want a team that cares about winning, not about themselves.

The Suns did all right without Amare. His points can easily be replaced by more outside shooting (LB and JRich). His rebounds can be picked up by Duds and Lou. What was missing were the easy PnR points in the paint.

Like I said before, they can still make the playoffs.

Easily might not be the word here. Jrich scoring 34 and LB scoring 41 is not gonna happen most nights. The bench scoring is what concerns me, its looking like the suns bench will be one of the weakest now, just like in the recent past.
