So I guess this means SF hasn't clinched yet?

I'm hoping our guys use this as motivation tonight, win and we're alone in 1st.

They look like a different team with him at QB and Crabtree in the offense.

Come on russ the guy had 4 catches and nothing overly exciting either and 0 TD's. I dont think he is causing and DC's to quiver in their shoes or change their gameplans just yet. Vernon Davis however has turned into a flat out stud!

Against the Texans, no.

On the bright side, Smith folded under pressure when he needed to rally his troops. Kudos for his 3 TDs in the 2nd half, but this was against the Texans. Do it against the Colts and it will be a different story.

Smith looks like a completely different QB...Texans played exactly like Cards did vs. Texans...

This loss should bring many overconfident 49er fans back down to earth, but they will probably say the team will win the Superbowl based on Smiths work today...

Cardinals dont play the Niners for weeks and have an opportunity to make the MNF game meaningless, for we all know it will be a very close game based on the past 4 or 5 years of these teams playing eachother.

On ESPN's fantasy pregame show their "expert" said whatever you do, don't start Vernon Davis, because houston has the best TE defense in the NFL. I started Davis anyways, he now has 3 TD's today.

:D

i benched him in favor of tony gonzales, and I always hesitate to run two TE's so I didn't plug him in to a wr/te slot. fml

5 catches with such little prep. I'm not saying they're the Colts now just the offense was much more open in the 2nd half with Smith at QB. That was largely because of the deficit, we'll see if Singletary opens it up next week,
but they were pretty impressive in the 2nd half.

You have to be impressed by Crabtree, sits out that long and looks pretty damn good.

Shaun Hill was clearly the one holding this team back after today's performance. It wasn't the OL, RB, WRs, or the OC. It was Shaun Hill all along because he has a noodle arm and no escapability when under pressure whatsoever. Alex Smith is obviously better than Hill, always has been, just didn't have the weapons we have now. With Crabtree, Morgan, and VD playing well, Smith could really have a good career with us after all. He's only 25, almost as young as many sophomore QBs in the NFL.

If you guys looked at my predictions, I predicted a loss today and next week but still had us going 10-6 after this game.

As far as the Crabtree goes, he's a stud. He sat out all year them came in and still performed. He might be only 6'1 but his arms are super long so he plays like he's 6'4- check out all his grabs today, you'll see what I mean. The guy has really strong hands.

All is happy in Niner Land today, even though we lost, the hope and faith is stronger then it was at the beginning of the season.

Alex Smith will NEVER have a good career with Singletary as his coach. He doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to deal with a neanderthal like Singletary. Smith is a good guy & a pretty cerebral kid, but needs an offense that fits his strengths. The 49er offense is NOT that type of offense. He needs to escape San Fran ASAP.

I wouldn't put Smith in the HOF just yet but that was definitely as good as I've ever seen him play. the pick at the end was vintage Alex though, time to throw, open WR and he throws high, he's done that his whole career.

But he definitely looked better and the shoulder seemed intact.

I agree on Crabtree he looked really good today.

You are wrong andSmith proved he could suceed with our offense today. Singletary has said publicly that he's not a run run guy. He said would like to run the ball well but that's far different from being hardheaded to run all time. Singletary will utililize his players to the best of their ability.

With that said, in order to win a SB, you need to be able to run the football.

That receiver wasn't open. There were 3 Texans around him, Peyton Manning couldn't even make that throw. Smith had to throw it high because of a defender in front of him.

Did you watch the play? Also, Peyton is not the greatest. He has played terrible befoer alot of times, especially in the playoffs. He threw 5 INTs before vs. the Chargers.

He threw late and high over the middle thus the pick. There was some room there it just wasn't an easy throw. That's been Smith's career problem other than fumbling, he misses high a lot.

I just watched it again on NFL.com, in hindsight I take it back. He wasn't as open as I thought there was some space but not that much, the ball was thrown too late because Smith was moving up in the pocket to avoid a guy.
IN hindsight though the main problem was the throw is late.
