I don't agree in this case. If he were 28 and she were 23 you wouldn't think anything of it. I'm 10 years older than my wife. She was in 3rd grade when I was a Senior in High School. Nobody finds that creepy (they just wonder what the heck she sees in me but that's another topic) We'll have our 25th Wedding Anniversary this August.
.

Well if you married her THEN, it would've been creepy lol

I wish it had only been 25 years since I was a Senior in High School. lol

40 years' great grandson was the Principal at my HS when I was 18 years old.

Haha, so many people make a huge deal out of a 5 year age difference between ADULTS because it's a prom. I am 30, am I a creep for dating 25 year olds?

Hayden is barely 5 years older than that girl. People need to realize that at 18 you are a grown man or woman not some little boy or girl. In a couple of months she may go to college where she will interact with thousands of 20 something mofos as you call them.

Nobody gets arrested for dating 18 year olds anywhere in this country that I know of. 18 years of age is a line of demarcation between child and adult for lack of a better term.

Sports figures need to do more cool things like this for fans and get more publicity when they do. We need more Phil Mikelsons and fewer Barry Bonds. I don't see it as fake at all.

I suppose that's all true (and so is everything else people said). To me, an 18 year old girl is still a "little girl" but I guess that's because I'm an old fart (relatively speaking, I'm only 42). I don't, however, think just because someone turns 18 it makes them into an adult. Most dudes/girls I know stay pretty immature long after 18, but that's another story/thread.

I can see where you might still think of her as a child at 18 but legally she's an adult. 18 to 23 isn't all that much of a stretch. Hell I'm almost 58 and my last girlfriend was the same age as my daughter. I had a hell of a time getting past that. Oh, btw my daughter is almost 40. Anyway I think what he did was a very nice thing for him to do. I wish more players had the mind set to do something nice instead of what we normally see reported about them.

lol, let's be honest here though. Haden is a young, successful, famous, good looking dude. I absolutely doubt that he had any sort of sexual intentions in taking his biggest fan to her prom when she asked him. I don't see any issue with it, and see it as strictly a classy move giving back to his fans

Exactly-----

My husband is 10 years older than I am, if he'd have asked me to his prom I would have been 8, and that whould have had creepy written all over it. When we got married I was 18 he was 28, that got some looks from our families, but friends seemed OK with anything that ended in a party. Thirty years and counting no one, including us, gives our age difference a second thought anymore.

sure, but the difference in maturity between a 15 year old and 25 year old is huge. I still think neither is all that important, as it's not like they're dating

18 is an adult in the eyes of the law...probably not in the eyes of her father.

His intentions are probably pure. That's great.

She still won't be an adult in the eyes of her father when she's 48. :D

I think age matters less and less as you, well, age. :)

A friend of mine brought her 21-year-old boyfriend to the prom. All I remember is him trying to get served at the bar. Um, dude, you are at a high school function, lol.

Yes. Sounds like she is borderline stalking him.

I'd say there are a decent amount of chicks following athletes on twitter that have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with them.

This is the new trend, big celebs taking chicks (or dudes) to Prom. I find it creepy. What parent is gonna let some 20-something year-old **** take their daughter to the prom and be okay with it? If I asked some little girl to a prom I'd be arrested. I think it's dumb and "fake" news and "fake" press and not-just-slightly but all-the-way creepy.

Truth is, dudes and chicks gotta stay within their own "class". If you don't know who Metallica is (like original metallica) then you're too young, if you don't know who Iron Maiden is then why you talking to 'em? You're too old/young. People who think Queen is just an acronym for Justin Beiber and don't realize they were a band are too young. Anyone dig this or am I too old?

I dig.

I really like the Iron Maiden Reference:

Isn't there a half plus 7 rule for this type of situation? (The person you are dating has to be at least half your age plus 7 years to be okay). He's 23 and she's 18. That puts them right on the edge but acceptable.

In a related but even more off topic story. A 41 year old female track coach was fired for escorting a 17 year old male student to the prom.
The coach is married to the 73 year old co-coach, who is the son of Nike's co-founder.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highs...hter-law-nike-co-founder-fired-141749438.html

Different situation. Faculty cannot take their own students to a dance, regardless of age difference or gender.

This football player was filling some fans wish, he had no relation to the school and his age difference is much less creepy. If he just wanted to get some tail from a high school aged chick I doubt a guy like him would have trouble AND I am certain he would not be so public about it.
