I suppose that if he's that insecure about his masculinity, sure. I don't think that Tiger would even consider it. You won't find a whole lot of people who won't admit that the LPGA is a step or two down in talent. If Annika does OK and is good enough to play on the PGA why not let her?

Why not?

Golf isn't a contact sport. Why there is even an LPGA is beyond me.

Throw the women in with the men. They'll get hammered at first and eventually start playing them even.

They never would be able to play the long courses as well as the men. Annika specifically chose the Colonial because it is a shorter course.

I say do away with the sexist LPGA as well. What a bunch of hypocrites. The women are upset because they can't be members at Augusta, yet they have an exclusive LEAGUE of their own without men. Yeah - that's cool.

Imagine the lawsuits if the PGA was called the MPGA...

A man cannot play in the LPGA. In it's charter, the LPGA is clearly defined as "women ONLY."

Excellent point.

I have no problem with women wanting to compete in a man's game...as long as they play by the men's rules.

All women-only sports have been tinkered with to cover-up the shortcomings of the players...

Annika dominates the LPGA feild she competes against, much more than Tiger dominates his peers on the PGA tour.

If the entire LPGA tour competed on the PGA tour for one calender year, they'd be lucky to make 10 cuts total.

Any golfer understands the gap between male and female ability.

Annika is doing great today, so far. But teeing off early, then proclaiming it's a great feat that she's on the second page of the leaderboard after 9 holes, (Sorenstam suddenly is listed 1st of the -1 scores) while most of the feild hasn't even tee'd off yet, is just another part of the hype being created in this publicity stunt.

I'm taping the whole thing.

She just bogied, down to EVEN.

But I'm all for her playing. Who cares if there is an LPGA...there is a PGA, it doesn't say you have to be a man to play, so she should be welcomed. If women want their own league, fine...who cares. Senior's have it too.

But the PGA is for everyone, IMHO.

It's good for golf, considering this tournament would normally be seen by probably just the 50 people in the gallery.

I compleatly agree. There is an LPGA because the women wouldn't have anywhere to compete (for the most part) if they had to play in the PGA.

Why not do away with the women's tennis tour as well. Those fascist pigs. How dare they?

Card Trader,

First let me tell you, politically I lean to the left.

Ok, there was a story about this guy in the Charlotte Post & Courier:

Throughout the morning, law enforcement officers stood on the perimeter of the five-acre field. At no point did the protest turn violent, though officers escorted Heywood Jablome away after he held up a sign directly in front of Burk that read "Make me dinner" before shouting "Oprah rules."

Not bad, but definately not great considering the conditions....everyone seems to be going low today.

She is in 60th place.

It actually says BORN women, so that men can't have a sex change and then join ala Renee Richards joining the womens tennis tour after a sex change in the 70's.

I thought she did pretty well today I didn't see much of it but she shot quite well. That said, it is a shorter course, it was abnomally windLESS today(they said the course is notorious for wind but none today), and the conditions were fairly ideal, and she's in 60th place but she's ahead of several male pros who got to play in the same ideal conditions.

as long as this doesn't turn into a men discriminate against women golfers mantra I have no objection to her challenging herself like this. When they start in about the discrimination is when I go off about LPGA and what it stands for.

Congrats to Annika she played her butt off today.

Yikes...still, with all the pressure, the attention, etc...+1 is pretty respectable...especially considering there are 16 guys at +2 or higher, two of them at +6...and about 15 left to tee off.

Good for her, I hope she can get some birdies tomorrow and make the cut.

+1 is respectable to the point that she didnt' embrass herself, but it by no means is competitive

Agreed , everyone kept saying the pressure on the men would be enormous since nobody would want to lose to her, but I think there is FAR more pressure on her. If she completely falls apart and shoots 10 over par she'll never heard the end of it and feel like she let down a lot of people.

Under the circumstances I'm amazed at how well she played today.

Hmm, I'm not following the logic here.....

She wants to be treated equally by playing on the mens tour, yet you guys are giving her a handicap because of pressure? That is a double standard, the reason she did not so well is because she isn't NEARLY as good as a good majority of the men on the tour.

Throw out all the lame excuses about pressure etc. for her performance, fact is though, she is suppose to be a proffesional who shoudl be able to play through that.

Heh, Annika appologists....now I've seen it all.
