Yahoo Sports - Haley Article

"Haley walked into the public relations office at Chiefs headquarters on a Thursday in early December. Four days before he was fired as the team's coach, he wanted to talk about what life was like inside this organization. But he didn't know who else might be listening.

Looking up toward the ceiling, he darted into a back hallway before hesitating. Then he turned around, going back through a door and stopping again. Haley suspected that many rooms at the team facility were bugged so that team administrators could monitor employees' conversations. [...]

This past year, Haley stopped talking on the phone and repeatedly checked his office for listening devices. After being fired, Haley didn't respond to interview requests; many former staffers said they signed confidentiality agreements upon being let go."

The original story was written by Ken Babb of the KC Star.
Articles like this are pretty rare these days, so take a minute and give ole' Ken a click on their page. It can only help him.

*edit, Farrar just created a readers' digest version of the article. For some reason that's bugging me.
Read you lazy jerks, read!

.................

As for Haley, dang.
If it was tongue-in-cheek or embellished for effect then point made, Pioli comes from an organization known for 'less being best'.
If it wasn't then it's criminal. Not a cute turn of phrase, but unless it was agreed to in writing by Haley and the other employees, then an actual crime.
This is my favorite bit:
Donovan denied that conversations are monitored or that the building is bugged. He said that in cases of suspected policy breaches or criminal activity, phone logs have been requested.

“I’m not going to say that we’ve never done it, but it’s not something we do,” Donovan said. “It’s not how we operate this business.”
What the hell does that even mean? This dude should run for office.

Back to Haley:
What does this mean for the Cardinals if he's hired? Even if it's true, right now it's not a flattering angle.

Thanks for posting the original article Spock.

These allegations are pretty serious. I can't help but think that the NFL should be conducting an internal investigation on the matter. This probably won't be going away anytime soon.

Yeah, this could put the Cardinals thinking to rehire Todd Haley in a bind. I'm really curious what they are thinking or is going on in their meetings. Would be great to be a "fly on the wall" in one of those meetings.

I'm guessing especially the blue chip coaches like a Jeff Fisher will put it into their contracts that they don't get eavesdropped on, phones tapped, computers tracked etc. Sure, employers routinely do this these days, but if you've got any leverage, you can damn sure contract out of it. I'd be absolutely sick if I was one of the Chiefs employees. That no way to live.

Shane, ----- this should be yet another heads-up about Haley not being wanted by Pioli. This makes at least three such instances that I have seen which seemingly point to the same thing now about Haley not being Pioli's choice for HC. Despite the inference by Big Red Rage that this might be schzophrenia on the part of Haley, it would be pretty hard for anyone to perform with any degree of comfort in that situation, perceived or not. Being a HC in this league is harrowing at best, as you are always on your way to being fired. Having to second guess one's every decision, (as to how it will be perceived by one's immediate supervisor), would be nearly maddening I would think. It's tough enough to perform well in this league when you HAVE the support of your boss. Having to work around that would seem nearly impossible in my estimation.

Yet, Pioli hired Haley. At some point, he was Pioli's choice.

And I know tons of people who have to second guess one's decisions regarding how one's immediate supervisor will perceive it. Starting with the majority of NFL HC's.

Just saying.

Does the Hunt family still own the Chiefs? Yes they do. There you go. Good luck Todd.

I don't dispute your statement at all Mulli, but it was pretty apparent that Whiz was saddled with retaining Clancy Penderghast from Denny Green's staff when Whiz assumed the HC position with the Cards. Ownership regularly imposes such favorites onto GM's, and thus it might be easy to construe that Haley was under the 8 ball from the get-go. There may have indeed been a fly on the wall all the time that was reporting back to Pioli, who then could go to ownership to show why Halely should be unloaded, (warranted or not). Just sayin'.
