So I open my paper up this morning to the sports section and what is on the front page:

Share your memories of the Chicago Cubs.
Cubs fans, what are your best memories
of your favorite team? We invite you to
share them with Republic and azcentral.com
readers on July 20th before the Cubbies make
their only regular-season visit to town. Tell us about
your best time at Wrigley Field, a meeting with a Cubs
legend or a special moment shared with a friend or
loved one. Send an e-mail of 200 words of fewer to
[email protected].

----------------------------------------------------------
My response:

AZ Republic Sports get real. If I see an article in the Republic about good times the Cubbies fan had growing up, I'll ban your paper from my house. Bad enough I have to sit next to them at MY home games and listen to how great their city is, now I have to hear about their memories. Move back to Chi-town then.

If you want Cubbies memories then how about a write-up on the D-Backs three game sweep in the playoffs last year.

Way to support the local team.

Nice response. What nonsense, since this is OT, are we going to have to endure articles about Cowboy and Laker fans memories as well?
Local teams have a hard enough time getting and keeping fans at games without this kind or stuff.

Since the Cubfan has so little good memories (not involving beer), it should be a short piece.

If this makes the paper as print I'm canceling my subscription. Screw the CUBS. May make for a cute piece about pathetic losers during spring training, but during the season?

Yup. The Azrep still thinks most of its readership is midwestern transplants. Their editors live in yesterday.

Of course, Dan Bickley is a Chicago transplant. And so was Jerry Colangelo. Mark Grace still sucks Cubs tit and Mesa's only tax revenue generating business is the Cubs spring training.

So the Chicago fungus is tough to eradicate from baseball here.

I'm also sending them an email on this nonsense. Its bad enough that Arizona fans have to put up with Bickley's yearly Cubs man-crush proclamations.

The Chicago Republic wants fondest Cubs memories? 1984 NL Playoffs, 2006 and 2007 NL playoffs, 1969 summer choke, the WhiteSox sweeping them this weekend, those are what I call FOND memories! Remember their last World Championship? Of course, not. They are celebrating the 100th anniversary of that, sorta. Their official site has a section titled 100 Years of Hope :biglaugh: . More like 100 Years of Suck.

I agree, it doesn't really belong. But I mean, for all the suffering that those fans have to go through, and things they might say to try and make it seem like they have a lot of good memories, well, we might just be pleasantly entertained. Or annoyed much. I don't know. But when I first read about az republic asking them to share memories, I was thinking, "WTF?"

The Chicago Republic, I like it. Phoenix already has an image problem, this aint helping.

God I hate the cubs, I hate the cubs. I hate their stupid, always drunk, rude fans.

Cancelling today after seeing that huge page dedicated to Cubs fans and incessant quotes from Mark Grace.

White Sox fans aren't that annoying, are they? And don't they hate the Cubs? I've met people that like either one or the other and met some people that will pull for both (whoever's winning, like in 2005).

I got one:

"I'm sorry you couldn't see the value in coverage of one of the most intriguing baseball stories of 2008. We are very Arizona-centric most of the time but we do want to pay attention to big national stories when we can, and I am confident real baseball fans appreciated the effort."-Mark Faller
