How does the 22nd ranked team in the country, Florida State, get to go to the Orange Bowl, while 6th ranked Oregeon has to settle for the Holiday Bowl a few days before New Year's?

Because FSU won their conference and that guaranteed them a BCS berth. Like last year with Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl.

The BCS is flawed.

Oregon didn't deserve a BCS bid - didn't win their conference and couldn't even beat Oklahoma. Still, agreed the BCS sucks.

I use their inability to beat Oklahoma as unimportant because a) the game wasn't given to them in the first place and b) their disappointment may have caused them to mail in their performance.

Well given that the #1 ranked team in the country with the longest win streak in the country is in their conference, can't fault them for not winning.

If Oregon had Clemens they would have beaten OU, probably quite easily IMHO. Not a great team by any stretch but they lost the key to their whole offense when they lost Clemens.

Pac 10 haters seem to overlook that.

Watch FSU thrash PSU tonight

:biglaugh: Seriously, that has to be the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Penn State had this game hands-down, and that was BEFORE FSU's leading tackler was suspended. This game's going to be at least a 14-point thrashing of FSU.

I wonder how these team can lose so many games and still be in the top 25. I know you have tradition an a 300 year old coach, but 4 losses (soon to be 5) isn't worthy of the top 25.

Michigan, Florida, Miami are the same way.

Next year there will be a 5th BCS game, which is supposed to give a Mid Major a Shot. It's the BCS's attempt to avoid the crap system them have.

There should be a playoff with conference champions.

My hats off to Penn State though, they did beat that 5 loss team...sure, it took a missed extra point and 3 over times, but they sure deserve that high ranking!

Well, here I am, all ready to come on here, happy to win yet humble because I snapped at you over the internet. Oh well. Yeah, I was too vocal on a number of threads, but your hatred of the NUMBER THREE NITTANY LIONS (unquestionably #3--who is your team again?) is so pathetic that I can't bring myself to apologize. Again, I ask, why the hate?

No offense meant to any FSU PSU fans but that game was an example of choke city football. Wide left, wide right. 3 ots and only 49 points.

Not nearly as bad as the U of Miami debacle though.

Bad BCS game. LSU has to replace PSU at #3 at least.

Has JoePa started any sideline fires with those eyeglasses during day games? I'm just jealous. The guy is 80 and has a job.

Bad BCS game indeed. Have to agree with you there. Have to vehemently disagree, though, that LSU replaces PSU at #3. No way in hell. We won a BCS game against a ranked opponent who won their conference. LSU blew out a ranked opponent in a non-BCS bowl who did NOT win their conference. Plus, you win a BCS bowl against a ranked opponent, you DO NOT GET JUMPED. We got jumped in places during the '94 season, after a win over a ranked opponent, and it had better never happen again.

Sorry. Off my hobby horse now :D

I am sure it won't happen, but I think LSU and Ohio State are playing way above their rankings right now. But that is too late for them.

Which is one reason why the BCS sucks - Ohio State would whoop Texas if they played now.

One of the excuses for not having a playoff is that the season was already too long. Yet the NCAA has approved the expansion to 12 game schedules for next year.

The Bowl people will never give up their elite status and the BCS system. Too much $$$$$$$$.

Texas and USC will get $14 million each tonight. Can you here the players bitching if their is a playoff system to decide who gets to the big jackpot. I can hear it now "We won the playoff games and get "nuthin". It ain't fair. "

The bowl games make so much money, that a good playoff system will bring in lots of money, and good games.

See Wally and Dback, I really agree with what you guys said. If they played now, Penn State could just lose a game against one of them, and lose their spot. Of course, conversely, given the opportunity, they may turn it on and win it all. I think the top teams need to play it out ON THE FIELD, and that the money is there for it to work. How many more people would watch the Crap.com bowl if it were the opening round of a playoff, b/ween USC and Michigan, say?
