just goes to show you never know - we've been inquiring and shopping players publicly but when we play teams jj gets the actual face to face with other (struggling) gms

kinda makes me wonder what tradable pieces are on the struggling teams will be facing in the near future

The way I look at it, the Suns were trying to carry water in a bucket with a hole in it.

We will have to see how it plays out, but I think the bucket has been patched. They will still need another interior presence, though.

My more serious concern is more about the effort and chemistry of the players already on the team. They should have been playing much better. There is something seriously wrong with the overall effort of the team.
My contention is that goes right to the Mid 3. Their attitudes are clear in their interviews - they just don't care that much about winning, and they are supposed to be the team leaders.

It would have to be for an equally bad contract/player a team is frustrated with.
Who would that be? I don't know of anybody who is as big a disappointment as Nurk.

It's going to have to be a long term bad contract, only positive thing about Nurk is he only has one more year on his deal.

Twitter is abuzz with the idea we are trading Allen for picks and to get closer to the apron, but it appears to all have been started by one of the "insiders" who is never ever right.
It actually makes some sense - but I am afraid the real reason is not to cut salary, but to get picks to include to get Butler - who at this point I really don't want.

Phoenix adds their new starting center while saving significant money in the process.

There's nothing in the statistics to indicate that Richards is any better than Nurkic. Fans who think the Suns have "upgraded" the starting center position are going to be disappointed. A rotation of Richards and Plumlee is woefully deficient.

Except, Charlotte has better paint numbers than we do on both ends and he contributed to that. He is more athletic than Nurk. There are many things that don't show up on a stat sheet. Altering shots and making guys change direction require the eye test. Even if the raw numbers don't change there are things he posses that Nurk does not. You are right though, in the end it may not make a difference. We don't know. We do know that Nurk was giving us nothing this year.

Really? I haven't seen much of Richards, but what I have seen is the man can at least make a layup and dunk the ball. That's already a massive improvement over Nurk.

He's at least a comparable rebounder and a better shot blocker. He actually has some athleticism as well.

I have never seen him throw idiotic passes that make me scream at the TV either.

I know he's not a great player, I just want someone who I don't actively hate playing center.

He's also younger.

We don't need to know this, but it would be interesting to know why the Hornets wanted to make this deal. In a similar Suns trade many years ago where another team traded a center to the Suns for a short point guard, Suns broadcasters stated that "you don't usually trade a big for a small."

Hopefully, Richards will demonstrate to Plumlee and Nurkic that jumping and layups are still a thing in the NBA.

It gets old hearing Eddie tell Plumlee to jump.

Cap space after this season and 2 extra picks. Mark Williams is their Center of the future. Not a hard question to answer. The Hornets also aren't competing.

When Williams is healthy they have two centers that are probably much better than Richards so they were not likely to keep him anyway. I don't know enough about that team to know why Okogie interested them but he's a solid rotation player and they also picked up 2 seconds for a player they no longer really need.

it's not just about production - it's about not hurting the team - nurk was doing just that - we needed a quicker more mobile center with rebounding being the primary focus

if he's healthy he's an upgrade - and i think everyone's going to see it right away in practice during sprint drills where richards should theoretically run both nurk and plum off the court

Kevin Durant on addition of Nick Richards:“He’s a strong presence in the paint, a big body that can wreak havoc down there and cause some problems with his rim protection. Getting his hands on the basketball on the offensive glass and then finishing above the rim. It’s something we all have to get better at as a group. Hopefully he leads us in that area. Just controlling the paint.”
“Durant on Josh Okogie: “I really appreciated how Josh approached the game and his love for his teammates. I wish him the best. I’m sure we’ll cross paths again. He’s a great teammate, but I’m looking forward to having Nick on the team.” #Suns
