Supposedly Mortenson is reporting that the Brownies want McCoy bad.... They have multiple 3rds as well.....

Swapping our #26 with their # 38 and picking up another 3rd (#71 or #85) could be just what the doctor ordered.

On Tuesday morning, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the Browns' interest in McCoy is "real," and that it's quite possible they'll use that high second-round pick to take him, or package some picks together to move into the bottom of the first round to snag him. Cleveland currently has three third-rounders and four fifth-rounders to play with.

I'm willing.

didn't they learn this when they did the SAME thing to get Quinn....

I'm not leaving the #26 spot...no thanks..we need the help at ILB, OT and CB too bad.

A player at #26 if drafted right is your captain of the squad....

STAY AT #26 and take your pick!

I'm pretty sure Colt McCoy will be there at #26...

I'd do that if you are going to draft Cody or Washington for example. They should be there at #26 but also at #38.

Also Dan Williams, Rolando McClain and Sean Weatherspoon are probably not going to be there at #26 anyway.

If Weatherspoon or Gresham is gone by #26 I am calling and making that deal.

Any CB, OT, or NT still left at #26 is going to be just as good as the one you could get @ #38 IMO. After McClain and Weatherspoon you are not taking any other ILB @ 26 IMO.

OT - Anthony Davis, Charles Brown
CB - Kyle Wilson, McCourty, Kareem Jackson,
NT - Dan Williams, Mount Cody.

If those are the three positions you are wanting to pick first then those are most likely the guys left on the board @ 26. One will still be there @ 38 and I cant really make a big case for one being better then the other at their respective positions.

Well your opinion disagrees with the vast majority. Do you see someone trading up for him or is there a particular team you think will take him that is already in front of us?

Here are the people in front of us
25-Ravens ( Flacco)
24-Eagles (Kolb/McNabb)
23-Packers (Rodgers)
22-Patriots (Brady)
21-Bengals (Palmer)
20-Texans (Schaub)
19-Falcons (Ryan)
18-Steelers (Big Ben the molester)
17-49ers (Smith) First possibility I see but I don't think they go QB here
16-Titans (Young)
15- Giants (Eli overpaid Manning)
14-Seahawks (Whitehurst?)
13- 49ers (See above)
12- Dolphins (Henne)
11-Bronocs (Orton/Quinn)
10-Jags (Garrard)
...
Teams beyond here can almost all use a QB. 2 will take Bradford and Clausen the rest if they are taking McCoy it would be a trade down (or up from 2nd). Just not sure I see who would take McCoy before us?

Which McCoy? When I see McCoy I think Gerald McCoy and he won't be there.

I would drop back 12 spots and pick up a 3rd (I'd want the higher of the two) in a heartbeat. 12 spots. That's what we're talking about here. There will be a player there who can start. Hell, Dansby was a 3rd rounder, right? In the NFL draft, the more picks you have, the better off you will be. This would be a sound move....

exactly. The 1st 3 rounds is where you find our starters and pro bowlers.

Yeah, and consider this:

We could have a 1st, a 2nd and two 3rds

-OR-

We could have two 2nds and three 3rds

Please. Gimme the latter any day of the week. It's not like we're trading out of the top 10. This deal only makes perfect sense BECAUSE we are sitting on a LATE 1st. It's imperative that we consider that fact....

Terrible idea. I can just see it now, draft starts at 1.30 am Holland-time. Middle of the night, and i'm waiting and waiting 'till we get to pick, and then we finally do get to pick, 'Cardinals are now on the clock', tension mounts, and Goodell comes up and tells the audience that the Cardinals have traded their selection. Gone is the night and nothing to show for....:D

J/K. If the usual suspects are all gone i'm all for it. It might save us from reaching for a player and could give us an extra contributor. Problem is there's not a whole lot of teams directly behind us that might consider a QB, so they're more of a trading partner candidate than we are.

Thanks for the research! I agree. I think McCoy will be there at 26 also.

Im sure everyone here knows the McCoy they are really talking about is Colt McCoy and it is very likely he is there at #26 unless the Bills realise both Clausen and Bradford are gone and reach. Id McClain, Weatherspoon and our prefferred NT choice are gone then id be ok with us trading down from #26 to #38 if that means we get a high 3rd round pick as comp. Im not too sure whether the Browns would be willing to do that though.

FWIW, Dansby was the 1st pick of the 2nd round, though I agree that if Weatherspoon is gone we should pull the trigger.

Fair enough. At any rate, Boldin was a 2nd, Wilson was (what) a 3rd and Dockett was a 2nd. Maybe my rounds are all off, but I know none of them were a 1st....

Then they really don't want Colt McCoy that bad.

I think that because the Browns have 3 third rounders, they are the best trading partner, and in this draft it would be wise to move down and add another 3rd rounders, unless a Rolando McClain slide to you at #26. There's great parity among the players 25-100 in this draft. Rather than draft 4 of them, draft 5!

That would be my sentiment too Mitch----provided McClain is already gone, then I too would be tempted to trade down for a high third and their #2 at 38, This might become interesting, because I saw on NFL Network last night that the Browns are not done yet at QB, and if they really want McCoy, this could help us too. :)

I half agree with this, however I think it is essential to not only get someone who is of equal talent in a trade down but to get someone who fits your system. That is the variable in drafting that so many people forget. An extremely talented player can be a very poor match for the team he is being drafted to especially at the positions we are looking at drafting. I think there are certain players we have targeted that are "perfect fits" and will only trade down if we are certain we can get them by doing so or if the ones we targeted went earlier than we expected.

A perfect example of this that I can think of is Calvin Pace. We drafted him and he actually is fairly talented, as a 3-4 rush OLB. We draft the guy to be a 4-3 DE and he doesn't do squat until we start using a 3-4.

Looks like the Browns currently don't want to take a QB in the first two rounds
Mike Holmgren said:
"But, here's the dilemma," he said. "There are areas of the football team that we really have to help -- the secondary, offensive line -- to get the team better. This year it would be pretty hard to use the second [round] pick to get a quarterback. It would be pretty hard for me.

"Next year might be easier. We've got [three picks in the third round and four in the fifth round] going for us. But I'd have to have another second-round pick [to take a quarterback in the second round]."

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/03/holmgren_says_cleveland_browns.html

Sounds like the Browns are looking to add picks not give picks up to trade up into the first.

All depends on what you do with the extra picks.

Terrell Suggs for Bryant Johnson and Calvin Pace comes to mind.
