He wasn't just dumb enough to use a personal account, he also used his personal cell phone. Even if he would have used a fake account, the IP on his phone would have been traced back to him eventually.

It's ridiculous how many people on Twitter just don't get the severity of Ridley's actions...including Ridley himself.

I personally only think it is a super big deal because he bet on his own team. Unless he had some insider information about the other teams.
Casino employees can't bet at their own casino (family of) but can bet at others for example.
It is clearly a poor judgment because it is against the rules of the NFL.
I look at it like this.
Want to play in the NFL? Okay, just don't break any existing laws like any good citizen, and on top of that don't smoke pot (legal in many places) and don't bet on NFL games (legal in many places). If you can follow these simple rules, you'll be paid to play a game.

That’s not exactly accurate. When I worked at MGM I could bet they’re all I wanted I could also play any slots or table games. The only exception was anything with a progressive over a certain amount I think it was $10,000

You can also make the argument there's risk if someone bets against a team they recently played -- was the person playing dirty trying to injure people? Low likelihood of this, but still a risk.

Interesting/convenient that the only player "caught" for gambling was placing bets while he wasn't actively playing. Ridley's a big enough name to send a message to all players in the league that nobody is above this rule. I find it unlikely that no other player placed a single bet. IMO, this was a message.
