• Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell has given $1.6 million to the Hurricanes to establish an endowed scholarship for defensive linemen in perpetuity, it was announced Wednesday.

  Campbell's donation topped the $1.5 million gift from former Hurricanes running back Ken Hunt in December. Miami will rename its defensive line room after Campbell, making him the sixth former Hurricane to have an area of the football offices named after him.

As much as I like CC, this is a little strange.

Many legends have come out of Miami. Prior to CCs donation, Im doubting his name got thrown around much on a daily basis. guys like Ed Reed and Ray Lewis are much more likely to have a room named after them.

So itd be like 10 years down the road, Carl Bradford make a big donation to ASU.

it helps some young people get a chance to go to college....it helps the college to be able to afford scholarships for students....and it is a great tax write off..........

I have listened to Lebatards local show for awhile now based out of Miami and trust me he gets plenty of love down there. They had him on like 3 times during the season to talk about the football team and his FSU rival Dockett. He gets plenty of love from The U he's just not as brash as some of the others he's naturally soft spoken

I think CC is thinking about the players taking a similar path as him through Miami and it has little to do with promoting Miami or if it matters if they pay him tribute

I see where you're coming from but I don't think it's strange from Cambell's point of view. It's irrelevant if it's reciprocated. If Cambell feels like they gave him his chance, improved his life, gave him opportunities he didn't think he'd have otherwise, then it doesn't matter if it's reciprocated--he simply wants to pay it forward and give another kid the chance he had.

I think oaken1 mentioned it, but maybe if the school has to give less money to football players, it can give more money to non-athlete students.

Also, if the money improves the football program, maybe it helps more U players make it to the NFL.

Whatever the reason, I give credit to Calais. It's good to see people be generous with their money.

Hmmm, you must not work at a University. You could be a complete no-name person, but for $1.6 million, we will put your name on lots of stuff.

Come down to Tucson and I can show you classrooms, foyers, hallways...all named after people who nobody knows or cares about. So a defensive line room named after Campbell (and those things have an expiration date...don't you worry) is nothing. Suggs can get the defensive line treatment room or the defensive line equipment training room or, since he is better known and will have to donate at least $2mil, the entire defense meeting room

Top tax bracket starts at $406k. Doubtful his contribution dropped his AGI below this amount.

It essentially cost him $1MM to give $1.6MM. I consider Calais a tier 2 athlete, and a Million bucks is a very generous donation for all but a few athletes.
