What a sad disaster. NOBODY except Dean Spanos thinks this is a good idea.

Too bad. I really think there's something special about he Chargers in San Diego. And I think highlighting the move "back" to LA is PR spin. They were barely there.

Especially sad since in 10-15 years, 1) the Chargers will move back after tiring of being a tenant and unable to get a new stadium in LA, 2) another team will move to San Diego while the Chargers struggle in LA and it will be weird for everyone, 3) somehow the Rams move to San Diego and the Chargers move to St. Louis, because this is the NFL.

Can't they take a page from the Angels and be the Los Angeles Chargers of San Diego? (Sorry if I'm repeating a joke here.) But I guess that doesn't get Spanos his stadium, and there's no evidence that LA wants the Chargers. PSL and ticket prices will be too expensive for the average fan, so they'll be at home watching TV. And as a lot of them have enjoyed watching out-of-market games since the 90s, many will stick with an NFL package and not bother to watch the local teams unless they're good.

Meanwhile the vindictive owners keep the team that would be a success in LA - the Raiders - out of LA (I say with apologies to Oakland).

This is so pathetic. Los Angeles does not need two NFL teams. Or two NBA teams. Keep the Chargers in San Diego and send the Clippers back there, too.

In 2018 we will be singing..."San Diego, Super Raiders!"

That Vegas deal is gonna fall through now.

Seriously. Not only will there be more Raiders fans at Chargers home games against them (as Plaschke notes in his column), the Chargers will never win over the LA-area Raiders fans who make the trek down to SD while no one from SD comes up to see the Chargers.

the chargers backed themselves into a corner on this,...then they had the time limit to declare their intentions to share with the rams..... hopefully the city of sandy eggo will get it together and sign a good deal before this actually has to happen.

The NFL doesn't care if the stadiums are empty. It's all about the all-mighty advertising dollars and TV revenues in the SoCal market.

The LA area as a whole watched less NFL football last season with the brand new LA Rams in town. If people aren't watching, those lucrative TV deals will dwindle.

The city of SD & the fans of the team lost out.

But let's not kid ourselves, there have been numerical opportunities & years for the city to get a deal done! The Chargers deserve a new stadium & didn't get one so they moved...just like they should!!!

Bill Plaschke has a hot take on this in the LA Times.. I agree with him 100%...

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-chargers-to-la-plaschke-20170111-story.html

Wow. He REALLY torches the Chargers. And, he is right.

Spanos is stupid. He got 300 million from the NFL to build a 1.2 billion dollar stadium. He is paying 650 million to the NFL to relocate. That means he needs to come up with just 250 million more to fully fund the stadium in San Diego.

I don't know what he is thinking. Their home games in LA will be like road games more often than not.

San Diego Charger fans should get organized and travel to some home games - to cheer loudly for the visiting teams. I am sure there will be tickets available. :)

Chargers' strange L.A. move includes a 2017-18 plan to play in a 27,000-seat soccer stadium

Not much about the San Diego Chargers’ move to Los Angeles makes sense, and that’s before you get to the Chargers’ home stadium plans for the next two seasons.

Chargers owner Dean Spanos officially announced the move Thursday morning. According to USA Today and Pro Football Talk, the Chargers plan to play at the StubHub Center in Carson in 2017 and 2018, before moving into Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s lavish Inglewood stadium in 2019. The StubHub Center is home to Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy, and it has a capacity of 27,167.
