Another loser. Hope these guys seek help because they all need it. Glad he didn't kill anyone.

Which is it? Is he a loser or someone who needs help?

Losers need help too. He is a loser for risking the lives of others just to get his drink on. He is a loser for not hiring someone to drive his drunk butt home or calling a cab to get him home. He needs help so that he stops doing this and does not end up killing anyone - which in his line of work might cost him a few games.

While I agree he made poor choices--criminal choices--they don't define him.

I thought that people weren't supposed to judge other (lest ye be judged) or cast stones (unless you are without sin yourself)?

If I recall correctly, he was racing to the hospital for an emergency with his wife... Not just getting his drunk on. Kind of a different scenario.

Biblical context

It's okay to comment on someone's ridiculously stupid and potentially deadly choices, IMHO. It's likely a combination of pride, denial, and being a high profile pampered athlete that prevents these guys from getting a ride. They feel they can do anything and the rules/laws do not apply to them. Even if/when they do kill someone - they know they'll get treated better than the average joe would in the same situation.

"Commenting on someone's ridiculously stupid choices" is far different then judging their entire person based on a single deed.

Who is judging their entire person on a single deed?

Maybe you're reading too much into it and not reading into it what should be obvious...

(For driving drunk and risking the lives of everyone on the road) he is a loser.

(For his actions that night) he is a loser.

No different than an intelligent person being called "an idiot" for doing something stupid. It isn't saying they are an idiot 24/7. I never said Haggans was a loser 24/7, but for that night he sure was.

"he is a loser" judges a person. All you're doing in the post above is saying why you think he's a loser. Those statements are not a judgment of his actions, but his person based on an action.

Eh, it's just reactionary. "He did what? What a loser!"

I don't really care how it comes off. I have zero tolerance for drinking and driving. There is no excuse.

Fine! But you should really look at the circumstances before you pass judgement. Put yourself in Clark's shoes for a moment... Child is having an asthma attack at home & the babysitter calls you frantic. You cannot find your wife at the concert & you've maybe had a little bit too much to drink. What do YOU do in this situation? Drive or do nothing? I know what I'd do.

And please don't respond if you don't have kids because you lose all credibility.

Have the babysitter call an ambulance and call a cab for myself?

If you drive drunk, you are a loser. Stop driving drunk. Get help if you need it. No longer a loser.

First, I can respond to any post whether I have kids or not. Putting disclaimers on who may or may not reply to a post is ridiculous.

I don't drink so I'd never be in his exact situation. Maybe that is why I can't follow his line of thinking. Or yours - drive or do nothing. Those are really the only two options you see on the board? Wow.

I can tell you - if I had a 5 year-old with under developed lungs I wouldn't be out at a concert tossing back drinks. If I was at a concert, I'd be struggling to have fun being away from her and worried sick all of the time. I'd stay sober knowing I may be called at a moment's notice and need to drive home. If I had his money and resources I'd see that she had the best care. I'd have a live-in nurse or otherwise medically trained assistant rather than a "babysitter."

More to the point - If I was in a similar situation where I was impaired for some non-drinking reason and had to be somewhere to help a child (I do have 4 nieces and a nephew all under 7) I would try to find the arranged ride I had, like Haggans did, then call 911 because it is a valid emergency and they would get there more quickly and much more safely than I could.

Again easy for everyone to second guess. Unfortunately that's not how real life works. I dont condone the drinking & driving and Clark would probably do it differently had he the opportunity to do it over again. But we'll have to agree to disagree on the circumstances and the judgement being passed. He is reaping the consequences for sure.

I do commend him for making a statement in which he said "...I should have found another way home and I take full responsibility for my actions."

Too many of the athletes in these situations plead not guilty or look to a high priced lawyer to get them off on a technicality.

Amen. No excuses. These stories are beyond ridiculous and they happen every week. This weeks fool is from Atlanta.

In that situation I would drive 10 times out of 10. I'll do my time if I have to but the bottom line is family is first .

So are all of these "facts" about what happened that night still coming from the same source?
