Not sure I'm a big fan of Harold at that point. He'd be about the 5-7 rated OLB off the board. I think, if all those OLB are gone, I'd rather take a top RB, CB, or OT.

I kinda agree...Gordon or Gurley at RB would make more sense, at that point, IMO.

with Vic Beasly and Brandon Scherff still available?

I hope the draft plays out like that. He bumped some weaker players up, and several stronger players fell to us.

I like Beasly, but lets see how much he weighs at the combines. Right now at 235 he is a bit small for my tastes, and will (IMO) get pushed around by NFL tackles as he try's to set the edge.

I was hoping the Bud Dupree or Benardrick McKinney would fall to us, but I see in his mock he has both of them gone by our pick.

I think Eli Harold is in the same boat as Beasley. Sitting at 235 they get engulfed by tackles sometimes. Harold has been productive for two straight seasons - 141 tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks. He also comes ready built to play in a 3-4 defense, there will be far less growing pains in that regard then a normal DE conversion type player. Virginia a 3-4 defense. While a decent prospect, not exactly a WOW player that will make fans go giddy.

remember von miller
we need a different pass rusher, able to get to the qb with his speed and quickness, especially considering we have to face wilson and kopernick

Ereck Flowers is a step in rookie RT who has played LT last 2 years. At #24, he fits. Good character, intelligent, big and mobile. I don't expect him to last this long.

Jeremiah's top 2 picks have character issues.

Lets see what Beasley weighs in at first before we make it a big deal of his weight, but Von Miller was 246 at the combine so not so sure that is a good comparison.

I disagree, I don't think his weight is an issue. His value is his speed. As he bursts off the line and is bending underneath the T, his weight will be a non issue. Ideally the T doesn't even get his hands on Vic.

Look at Luke Kuechly. Arguably the best LB in the NFL. Hes only 240.

I would take Dupree and McKinney (whos an ILB) for sure, so long as Vic wasn't available.

After more thought I agree. Dion Jordan's playing weight at Oregon was 225 but he had the frame to add bulk and came to the combine at 250.

Not sure if Beasley can add any "good weight" to an already maxed out frame.

i respect Daniel Jeremiah's scouting --

prior to media, he worked as a scout ( for the Ravens IIRC)

It's not his pass rushing abilities that anybody would question. The question is can he stop the run at such a low weight. These big athletic tackles will eat him up. IMO

This above is true.

You can't draft an OLB in the first round that is a PURE pass rusher.

they play with 3 dt in front line
actually 2 de playing olb
we need speed,i m tired to see wilson avoiding slow pressure and making 20 -30 yard running the ball

Then we need a fast side to side ISLB to spy on running QB's. That is where we missed D-Weed this year the most. IMO

I'd be happy with:
Round 1 - Beasley/Orchard
Round 2 - Peters/Grant/Harold

OSU fans, what's the skinny on Grant? He held Cooper in check. Is Bradley Roby a good comparison?

Anyone think Hundley will make it to Round 3?

Last time I checked the Cardinals had Deone Buchannon at 6'1" 209lbs playing LB. I'm not concerned at all with Beasleys size. The dude can get to the QB and that's exactly what the Doctor ordered!

The problem is Buck was pushing up as LB on passing downs. No one is concerned about his (Beasley) pass rushing. I feel you don't draft a pure pass rusher in the first round. If he's a first round OSLB he needs to be on the field all 3 downs. A LB is not LB in every scheme. There is a reason the OSLBs in a 3-4 are hard to find.

I just looked at the link. Can't believe they have Fowler going 3rd. I still think this is a good year for the Cards to trade up and get a guy like Shane Ray. He's what the doctor ordered for this defense.

Ya know I was thinking about starting a thread the other day titled; Is this the year" that we make a bold move to get that one player to put us over the top. That player being Shane Ray.
