This game is amazing. The new defensive schemes are unreal, and you have so much more control over the defense. If you liked '04, you must get the new madden. A few notes:

Dockett is a beast
Fitz is strong
Dansby is super quick/fast
They have Big at LT (I found this surprising)
They robbed McCown of about 10 speed points (his speed is 69)
Berry is amazing
Starks is much faster than in last years game (speed rating of 94 from 89)
The offensive playbook is amazing with Denny Green

I bought it too and I love it. However, There are some plays from last years playbook that I miss and even though Fisher is better right now than Dansby (mostly smarter) I put Dansby in as a starter, more of an upside in my opinion (as much as I like fisher)

McCown is plenty fast enough. I had no problem getting him outside the pocket or running him up the middle. He's not Mike Vick (94 speed), Daunte Culpepper (81), or Donnie McNabb (81). He's on that second level, with Steve McNair (74) and Aaron Brooks (73).

I like both games a whole lot...I think Madden is smoother and faster...easier to play..NFL2k5 looks a little better and I love the ESPN SC integration, powerpoll, etc...Both games are keepers...

Depends. I have nfl2k5 on Playstation 2, but Madden 2005 on PC. Nothing is better than playing in resolutions of 1600x1200 or 1920x1200. Makes the TV look like it was invented in the '50s. Oh wait, it was . . .

It's harsh, I know  He's something like 69-72. The 3 linemen in the middle average out to a 70 in rating. I have McCown running around like a madman back there.

It doesn't look like Alex Stepanovich is even in the game...?

Sure, but I'm at work right now. I'll do it tonight if nobody beats me to it.

Any of you guys big on the franchise mode? Thats about all I play, and after looking at the 2K5 version, it doesn't look quite as smooth, and maybe a little TOO in depth with all of the weekly prep and practices that you have to schedule. I've played madden every year since '95, so it'll be tough for me to break down and get it unless it is far and away a better game.

I benched Ray Thompson and put Fisher in his place. I need my LB's to be crazy fast, and Thompson was just too slow. You can raise every other attribute with playing times and training camp other than speed.

Franchise mode is so much better than ESPN's, it doesn't even compare in my opinion. ESPN does a lot of things right but franchise isn't one of them.

Do you mean Madden 2005 on ps2? From what I've read online the PC version of Madden 2005 won't be out until like the first week or two of September.

I always get madden either the day before it comes out (if you go to the right places) or the day it comes out. If its out (on PC) hook me up, where'd you get it?

I got computer parts from newegg on the way for a new computer (amd fx53 with all the frills...it'll beat my p2 400 I'm typing on now...but hey it got be through madden 99,00,01,02,03,04) :D

ACtually the TV was invented in the 1920's and went on sale in 1929 :)

Scott, give ESPN2k5 a try using 480i. It will look much better than standard TV. I am not sure if PS2 supports that or not but I know XBox does.

HeavyB3, love your avatar. "You heard me, I said it!" This forum won't let me use my Mooninites avatar even though it's hosted on my own webspace.

Can anyone give me the lowdown on the Madden 2005 Cards playbook? Mainly anything new and drastic over whatever was there last year. I bought ESPN2k5 expecting a new playbook over 2k4 since Denny was taking over but it's nearly the same except a few run plays were removed and there is a lack of new passes. What boggles my mind is that the run plays that were removed were all weakside runs, which typically are to the left.

I thought DG was going to run more to the left this year due to BIG being the left tackle. Thing is, without the weakside runs, you have to flip strong side runs to run left. Which makes it really easy for your opponent since he can figure out you almost always run strongside.

I am disappointed with the lack of new passes in 2k5, I thought DG would bring something over from the Vikings. Oh well, at least since McCown is the starter now they've decided not to gimp his ratings. In previous versions his pass strength was so low you could not exceed 35 yards in the air on a pass.

Berry is an animal in ESPN2k5 too, but maybe it just looks that way because he's up against AC in practice mode!

The 3-4 Defense is back in, after being absent in Madden 2004.

There's a new feature where WRs and backs can change their routes based on how they're being defended. I haven't really seen it in action yet, but it seems pretty cool.

The routes are a lot more vertical this season, and seem to be more directed to the outside. My favorite play (where the slot guy slants to the middle, the two outside WRs run flies, and the RB runs into the flat opposite the slot WR) is gone.

The Shotgun formation is a lot different. Trips and Trips Bunch has been added.

Still no Weak I 3WR set, which kind of sucks.

I never had a problem with switching b/t strong- and weakside runs, since all you have to do is twitch the right analog stick to the opposite side to flip everything. The same w/s runs seem to be in there, though.

I wish you could do that with the ESPN game.

Also ESPN 2k5 only allows you to change one passing route at the line. In Madden (2004) you could change each route.

The no huddle to 4WR curls then changing the routes based on coverage was very effective in a 2min situation.

Looking forward to trying out Madden 05.

Sorry. I have nfl2k5 on Playstation 2, 480i, component video connection. I have Madden 98 through 2004 on PC. I have a 23" widescreen LCD so I like the higher resolution on the PC via DVI (1600x1200 or 1920x1200). Very nice and the detail is incredible.

We also have xBox and I think xBox is better for online play.
