. Almost every analyst you hear, i heard Aikman last night, heaps praise on Kolb and acts like he's a top QB in the league yet they'll turn around an question Leinart. What the heck has Kolb done to deserve any hype? The guy has started 2 games and has a career QB rating of 68.9.It seems everyone is projecting his play on his 391 yard game against the Saints in 2009 and his 34-14 win against the Chiefs, two of the worst defenses in the league. Those 2 teams allowed a combined 765 points that year. Look at the Saints game closer and it was a 48-22 loss where they threw every play. He could easily be the next Scott Mitchell. The Eagles play in a QB friendly system, they have to to make McNabb look respectable, but he was sweak armed QB from the Texas Tech system that has yet to produce a viable NFL QB. Even AJ Feely looked acceptable as the eagle backup QB years ago but stunk when starting. For my money, at this point, I'll take Leinart over Kolb any day. I think the eagles are in for a long year.

Here in Philly, its a given among most fans that Kolb is going to break the Eagles single season passing yards record this year. I don't get it either.

Kolb played at Houston, I believe, but he was a spread QB.

I don't hear what you're hearing, but I think that part of it is that he is in a QB friendly offense with some very good weapons around him in Jackson and Maclin.

If Kolb was expected to be the savior in--say, Buffalo--I might agree with you, but he's playing in an offense that he's been working in for three years with some weapons around him. I don't think he's going to be a Top 10 quarterback, but I don't think it's out of the question for him to outperform more established QBs like David Garrard, Matt Hasselback, Jason Campbell, maybe even Donnie McNabb, who doesn't have near the weapons at his disposal.

Do you think that Kolb will have a better statistical year than Chad Henne, Matt Stafford, Alex Smith, and/or Matt Leinart? I think he'll be better than at least three of those guys.

We may not like it as Cards fans, but I'll take the top 4 receiving options in Philly (Jackson, Maclin, Celek, and Avant) over what we'll be running out there this year.

I think Kolb will be a top 15 QB this year.

That's kind of where I am. It's not like there are a ton of great QBs out there. Ben Roethlisberger is going to be out altogether. As far as I can tell, in a passing offense, to be a top-15 QB, Kolb will have to out-perform:

1. Sam Bradford
2. Matt Moore/Jimmy Clausen (whom I hear is in a big competition right now)
3. Jake Delhomme/Colt McCoy
4. Josh Freeman
5. Buffalo's Pupu platter of sub-mediocrity: Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brian Brohm, and Levi Brown
6. 12 games of Ben Roethlisberger
7. Carson Palmer
8. Matt Cassell
9. Jay Cutler
10. Vince Young
11. Kyle Orton/Tim Tebow
12. Matt Hasselback
13. Jason Campbell
14. Donnie McNabb
15. Chad Henne (who I kind of expect to be good)
16. Alex Smith
17. Matt Leinart

It's not totally in Kolb's hands. There's not much that he can do if Carson Palmer starts throwing for 4000 yards again, but he's easily better than 2/3rds of the quarterbacks on this list.

Man, there are a lot of really dreadful quarterback situations in the NFL right now.

I dunno man, you make it sound like the Cards are throwing chopped liver on the field. Fitz and Breaston are nothing to sneeze at as a #1/#2 and while Doucet hasn't been a monster, he played pretty well down the stretch last year. #4 receiver, I'll agree with you since we don't have a tight end so to speak nor a clear #4 yet.

I have no doubt that Fitz is better than anyone that the Eagles have. But Breaston is a pretty average #2 WR and I think that Jeremy Maclin is going to explode this year (don't tell anyone in my fantasy league). Jason Avant is already the kind of player that the Cards are hoping that Doucet can be this season. Finally, as you say, the TE position isn't even close.

I like what we have at WR; I think we can win with this group if we have a productive running game. But I think the Eagles can win without a productive running game and those receiving options. I'm not sure about us.

He did go to Houston . Houston, Texas Tech same thing. Houston does have Andre Ware and David Klingler as esteemed alums though.

Careful whom you say that around. Our own Rex Hadnot is a proud alum of Houston, as well as Antowain Smith (whom I think was toting the rock for the Bills last time they saw the postseason), Oakland CB Stanford Routt, Rams WR Donnie Avery, and Patriots OT Sebastian Vollmer.

I think Kolb gets some cred because a) people have seen him in recent game action and B) probably more importantly he was actively elevated above McNabb in Andy Reid's eyes. It wasn't like here where Matt was handed the job because Warner left. Andy Reid proactively shipped McNabb's ass out to make room for Kolb because he thought he had a better chance of winning with Kolb over McNabb. I also believe Reid's cred/ability to get, well, pretty much ANYONE (Jay Feely anyone? Garcia? Detmer?!) to play well in his system is probably what gives people faith in Kolb.

To beat out 2/3rds of that list he'd have to do better than 11 or 12 of those players. I disagree that he easily will, but he could. I just don't think Kolb and the Eagles will do much this year.

Alex Smith had a great year last year and maybe his struggles are over. Jason Campbell should do just as good in Oakland as he did in Washington. Matt Cassell should improve on last years numbers(tho he still doesn't have nearly the same weapons he did in NE). The rest I can agree with tho. Again maybe he does do better than I expect tho.

Without a doubt, all the stats, and facts are good and solid on this thread.

But, really my only problem is that will all the new QB's under center that look soooo promising, why it is when Leinart's name is thrown into the ring, it turns negative ? Why are we not allowed to have hope ? What makes every other new QB in the league better than Leinart ?

I think it is B.S. to tell you the truth, but then again what is new ? This always is the situation. If the Cardinals let a player good he is the key to his new teams success, if we sign or keep a player he is a bum and will do nothing.

PS - Don Banks of SI is in fact on the Leinart bandwagon. Not 100% but he is at least on the edge with his feet dangling off the back.

I've always viewed Kolb as a Max Hall kind of smart, system QB.

That's not necessarily a bad thing; it's just that, in terms of pure athletic talent, the dude isn't the second coming of Elway or Unitas (or for that matter, IMHO, Donovan McNabb).

Maybe I'm missing something, but that's how I see him.
