he also doesn't have shooters to spread the floor which his system needs. he also doesn't have speed to get out and run which his system needs.

it's gonna be really interesting to see if once Nash comes back healthy that he puts the ball in Nash's hands 90% of the game to run around like a chicken with his head cut off and how that effects Kobe.

this will be very interesting indeed.

Kobe isn't the question. It's how D12 and Pau interact, because it takes the ball out of Pau's hands making him kind of awkward in the offense.

Kobe will be fine. Out of the princeton sets, he was fine without the ball, and shooting high efficiency on very easy shots. I have absolutely ZERO concerns with how he'll adjust, because he's going to get easy looks. Pau might become more of a liability than an asset however, because when he isn't involved he tends to mentally drift.

If the Lakers had gotten Nate McMillan

This was my non-Phil choice. Good coach, IMO.

I wonder how this affects Pau. D'Antoni has always struggled when having two big men on the floor at the same time (Amare & Shaq) (Amare & Chandler)

Unless Pau is gonna start shooting 3s more consistently, I have a feeling he won't have much of a role there.

This is exactly my concern.

D'Antoni was doing well in NY until they traded for CarMElo.
I'm really pleased that the Zenbastard got blown off. That guy has to be the most arrogant figure in professional sports.

Steve Nash's return from a fractured fibula has been delayed at least another week.

Nash will be re-evaluated on Friday.

"I think Mother Nature is a big component of this," Nash said. "The waiting game is always frustrating.

Looks like Steve Blake will running Mike's offense for a while. As long as its a "Steve", I'm sure D'Antoni won't mind :p

Its no secret that Mike D'Umbtoni isn't one of my favorite guys...so i hope this experiment proves to be his last coaching gig on this continent. He belongs in Europe.

It will be sort of like the old days when we disagreed about the philosphy of DA and the use of Steve Nash back in the days when the Suns were relevant. ;)

Im mildly shocked.

D'antoni?

The Lakers issues were their lack of physicality. Lack of defense. Werent tough. Why would the Lakers bring in King of no defense?

I think they just think with Mike, they can outscore every opponent 140-130 every game.

This is a horrible hire. When someone you hate is screwing up, you dont correct them, but damn.

This is a move is to appease Kobe. Nothing else mattered much.

They will win a lot of games but the title will elude them..............Sounds familiar???

Great point. The big difference here is obviously the man in the middle, but still, the Lakers don't have the spacing on offense to really thrive in half court sets come playoff time. Should be interesting to watch.

The Suns got to the Western Conference finals with no one close to the talent of Kobe and Howard on that team.

Playoffs who knows, but this is going to look like a really impressive team by January.

Great hire, perfect for that team. No one can prepare them better to lose to inferior talent in the playoffs.

This is the way I see it.

The Suns had four consecutive 50 win seasons under DA including two trip to the WCFs. Those were the good old days. I thinks Suns fans got greedy.

So, when exactly did Mike do this? I can't think of a single series we lost that you couldn't argue in favor of the other team's talent. Mike's system made a few average players look like stars but that didn't make them stars.

In a van...down by the river.
Fools gold D'antoni.
.473 career playoff record.
The light switch just seemed to "shut off" when the games started to count.

My little sister could gameplan for Pringles in a 7 game series.

Problems with this concerning the Lakers:

1. Pop owns Antoni. Pure and simple.
2. Lakers aren't young and athletic enough to run with OKC or Miami which is what they'd need to do in Antoni's system.

If the Lakers coincide this with flipping Gasol for some parts that can play more up tempo I can see it but until then I don't see it working. They'll still make the playoffs and such but look like 2nd round fodder to me.

They also got there despite D'Antoni with one of the most unselfish teams on the planet. He now has Kobe and Howard on the same team along with another guy who needs the ball in Nash.

Also, he has to be one of the worst in game adjustment coaches I have ever seen. Wait until the playoffs when he play another X's and O's coach, he is going to start playing checkers while everyone else plays Chess.
