Did D'Antoni draft Marshall or was he already gone?

I was a bit surprised when the Lakers picked up Marshall and not local kid Larry Drew 2, but then I figured well if D'Antoni drafted marshall it made sense he picked him up since he was familiar with him.

D'Antoni was already gone. This was on Lance Blanks, then GM of the Suns.

D'Antoni was long gone when we drafted Marshall.

Its true that Marshall is slow but its also true that he passes the ball ahead very well on the break, so he's not a total loss.

I agree with Steve about Kendall's know it all attitude... we did him a favor shipping him off where he'd have adjust his attitude if he wanted to stick... maybe even gain a little humility...

He was getting minutes when we sent him to the D league and he failed spectacularly while there. Some people come into the league believing they already know it all and only after hitting rock bottom do they start to accept instruction. Perhaps that's happening here.

I'd also point out that Marshall came into the league with two huge knocks on his court game. He was a poor defender and an even worse shooter. I think it's far too early to put those concerns to bed.

I agree with the attitude thing. Although word was that he was really working on his shooting and doing well in practice. It just never showed up in games. But usually that takes time.

But, in the game the other night he got 40 minutes and the Lakers have no other pg's. I am not so sure Kendall handled battling for minutes well. Once he is the only option and knows he is going to get 35 plus minutes, he is starting to produce.

But producing personal numbers does not necessarily translate to wins. If he cannot defend and cannot shoot very well, he can get lots of assists and still be a negative overall impact.

DAnotoni's system is very pg friendly and tends make them look better than they are. He might end up being Jeremy Lin pt 2.

OK, I know lots of UCLA fans who are also Lakers fans(not me) expected they would pick up Drew not Marshall.

My guess - that's his ceiling, at best.

Some players need minutes to be effective. It seems that Marshall is one of them. He just was not going to get the minutes here behind Goran and Eric. Also, he is just too one dimensional for the type of team we are trying to build. He's OK in DAntoni's system.

He has been and always will be an assist machine.

That's what happens when you can't shoot but then teams learn to play off you and the assists get harder to come by.

Looks like back to reality, 5pts on 2 for 13...missed all 3pt attempts, 8 assists along with 6 turnovers I think.

When I hear Kmart I always think about Kenyon Martin.

Me too. Some nicknames just should not be repeated. When someone said Kmart I just ignored the rest of it because I couldn't care less where Kenyon Martin is or who is paying him or releasing him next. Come to think of it, I'm not too concerned about Kendall Marshall's whereabouts either.

Huh, I've never heard him called that before. It makes no sense to me. I mean Kenyon Martin it makes sense, Marshall it makes no sense. Shouldn't it be Kmars or Kmarsh?

Then why cut him? Wasn't he on a minimum deal? I fail to understand the logic in that.

Maybe he had bonus incentives that need to be removed.

Marshall shot 40% behind the arc this past year... that will keep defenders from sagging off too far.
