Apparently a group of off duty cops were having a party of some sort and ordered a few bottles of champagne but someone from Mccoy's entourage grabbed one of the bottled from the server. One of the cops stepped to this guy and a fight ensued. The cop was knocked to the ground and people in McCoy's group were stomping and kicking him resulting in the cop receiving a broken nose and broken ribs. It is unclear whether or not McCoy took part in the assault. Not for nothing it sounds like it was McCoy's group who started the whole mess.

I heard they are charging him with assault on a cop. Is that true? How would McCoy's party know if they were cops if they were in regular clothes. Not excusing the crime but it seems McCoy is in some trouble whether it was a cop or not and should be charged.

Harrisburg native and Buffalo Bills star running back LeSean McCoy, 27, is the one drawing headlines. But Philly.com also reported former Chargers running back Curtis Brinkley and former University of Pittsburgh wide receiver Tamarcus Porter participated in the beat down of a Philadelphia cop. The website reported that Christopher Henderson, 26, was the fourth person labeled a suspect on the incident report.

Curtis Brinkley

Brinkley, 30, grew up in West Philadelphia and played his college football at Syracuse.

He went undrafted in 2009, but latched on with the Chargers and played in San Diego from 2009 to '12, though he was cut and re-signed several times. Brinkley hasn't played in the NFL since he was cut by the Bears before the 2013 season.

In the summer of 2009, Brinkley was shot multiple times by his sister's boyfriend. The boyfriend was convicted of attempted murder, while Brinkley recovered well enough from non-life threatening injuries to continue his football career.

Brinkley, a star during his high school days in Philly, was the MVP of the Big 33Classic in 2004.

Tamarcus Porter

Porter, 27, also goes by T.J. and played with McCoy at the University of Pittsburgh in the late 2000s.

A Florida native, Porter was dismissed from the Panthers in 2009 after pleading guilty to two DUIs in the span of a year, according to files from the Pennsylvania courts system. He transferred to North Alabama to play his senior season and never reached the NFL.

According to the incident report, Porter escalated the altercation Sunday by attempting to take a champagne bottle from one of the off-duty police officers.

I don't think it will be assault on police officers, just that the assault was on police officers but it was off duty. However, a cop is a cop 24/7 but in this case I don't think assault on police will be a legit charge. More like aggravated assault to me. Aggravated only because once the guy was down, they proceeded to kick and stomp him.

For some reason I find it odd that these morons tend to get treated harsher when it's a 'off duty police officer' compared to just some random bouncer.

Shouldn't it be the same? If a police officer is moonlighting, and not in uniform, they should just be a regular joe.

Yeah McCoy, if true, was a moron... but I think it's weak sauce they might try him with something stronger for someone who can't be identified as a cop.

They weren't moonlighting. They were patrons. McCoy's idiot friend took one of their champagne bottles, one of the cops stepped to him, and a fight ensued. That in and of itself isn't so terrible and more than likely once it was broken up that would have been as far as it went, however, after the cop was knocked down, McCoy and his boys allegedly kicked and stomped the guy breaking his nose and his ribs. That is called aggravated assault.

He needs to serve some time & a 3-4 game suspension if true.

It just blows my mind how the police are so disrespected these days & their hands are tied. Sure there are bad cops but today its an all out assault on them for trying to protect communities.

WOW, are you for real?

For what? Maybe you misunderstood.

A person gets into a fight, it's a fight.

A person gets into a fight with a uniformed cop, it's assaulting a cop.

A person gets into a fight with someone off duty that looks like a regular guy or a bouncer, it shouldn't be assaulting a cop.

McCoy or anyone is a moron for getting into a fight, but the ramifications should be standard.

Someone who kicks anyone while down should be aggravated assault.

You must have misunderstood.

Believe me, I'm not for these sorts of incidents, in fact I hear about a ton of them all the time from my friend who runs multiple nightclubs. In fact I hear a lot of shadiness revolving around bouncers and off duty cops as well.

You can't cite them with assaulting a police officer if they are off duty and plain clothed...

I may as well tell my Shady story now. I have a friend who works at a certain custom cake bakery in Scottsdale that shall remain nameless. One of Shady's girlfriends last summer called and said she needed a custom cake for Shady because he was having a birthday party in Scottsdale. She didn't know what she should get. She asked what Shady's favorite things were and was told "well he really likes jets and money". The cake ended up being a jet flying and spilling money out of it. I have a picture of said cake, but promised her I wouldn't share it because it would likely go viral and could cost her her job. It's in Bills colors.

So really, none of this surprises.

I don't like how this story is being referred to as "assault on off duty police officers"

They weren't cops. They were civilians in a bar who got in a bar fight. And it takes 2 to tango, as they say.

If there was a big brawl, its because the drunk gentleman whos day job is that of "cop" got in a fight with a Shadys drunk crew. Generally in cases like these, the charges should fall equally on both sides.

Cops are cops 24/7. If they identified themselves as cops and he was assaulted anyway then it's an assault on a police officer. Even I can effect an arrest while off duty but I have to identify myself as a police officer. In some cases I can be reprimanded if I was a witness to something and I did nothing. Also, just to clarify what you're saying, is it OK to assault a plain clothes detective or someone acting as a mole?

Really? So when one of Shady's guys took the bottle of champagne the offending party, who just happened to be off duty cops, should have just cut their losses and walked away? I don't know about you but where I come from taking something that doesn't belong to you is called stealing which is against the law. Also, if Shady's guy was the aggressor and threw the first punch, what is the other guy to do? And finally, as I've said a few times in this thread, a cop is a cop 24/7. Once I remove my uniform it doesn't mean my duties are 100 over. I can be recalled at any time(it has happened) and I'm essential personnel. The same is for these guys but thanks for showing us your true feelings on cops.

Stop it. It's assault on another person just like any other human. Cops don't get to act like regular joes, partake in a bar fight then get to add a special circumstance because of their profession. They get enough impunity in uniform.

Reality check, until the person identifies themselves as an officer of the law and shows proof of that they are just another person in the bar. What we do not know in this case is, did the police officer ever ID themselves as such. I am not condoning what happened however the police officer needed to ID himself or else it counts for nothing. If he never ID himself and got into a ruckus then in my opinion he is just as accountable as the other participants. In fact as an officer of the law I would have hoped that he would have taken the higher road and done everything in his power to prevent a fight. If he ID himself and the fight took place anyway then it's whole different story. Until the details come out, we are only speculating.

If the police were on duty and uniformed I would agree with you about the disrespect for police. Saddens me that people do that. But the guys McCoy's party beat up were off duty and in civilian clothes so they probably did not know they were police when it all went down. Regardless taking drinks and starting a fight with whomever they should face jail time.

I agree with the regular joes part, but they didn't 'partake in a bar fight' in this instance, as reported. They were stolen from and got jumped when they protested. Huge difference.

according to the state of California...if someone starts hitting you,...you are to notify the authorities and wait for them to come rescue you...any attempt to defend yourself is automatically assault.

my brother was sent to prison for such an occasions...a group of fellas came by his house starting problems, he defended himself,.. and was charged with three felonies because he kicked a guy in the face and shattered his nose...aggravated assault, mayhem, and assault with a deadly weapon.

If you actually read what I said you'd see that's what I said. If they identified themselves(which would be tough in a loud bar) then assault on an officer is applicable. If not, then it's not. I can only tell you how it applies in NJ. I am unfamiliar with PA law. That said, what no one is seeing is that Shady's crew started all of this by stealing the champagne, if what was being reported is indeed true. I'm going to guess no charges are going to be filed unless the injured guy presses charges. Hell, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the off duty cops get administrative charges. I know this would happen in my department.

It doesn't pay to win a fight. The "tough guys" that instigate fights dial 911 when they get their butt whooped.

PS.... from the accounts I read Shady & Gang knew the "cops".
