Corrections sergeant(a promotion I kind of regret taking now) actually but yes I'm in corrections but I do have full police powers with the exception of effecting traffic stops. There are things like departmental policy when it comes to carrying off duty(I'd go into details and am quite sure you'd roll your eyes at them with me) but in reality we are exactly like a street cop only the crooks and other bad guys are easily identifiable.

Is this just a NJ thing? The CO's that I know do not have any power whatsoever outside of the prison.

Very few have the powers we have. Our training includes the NJ state criminal code(even though we'd never use it). My department's special operations group was activated during 9/11 and were in NY. After Sandy, we had guys go to the places hit the hardest for security purposes. We have full police powers even outside of the jail. Now realistically speaking, when an arrest needs to be made, we get the local constabulary involved but by all rights I do have the authority to effect arrests and even use deadly force if the situation ever called for it. We've been training in active shooter situations recently but this more for off duty situations but we've also enacted a policy where we might get called for incidents around town but my guess is that the likelihood of something happening is slim and none. But, yes, per the NJPTC we have full police powers with the exception of traffic stops.

So...someone shot a video of the incident and it says it was filmed at 2:45 AM. What time do they stop serving alcohol in Philly?
I believe 3am but don't quote me. We have places in NJ that are open until 4am and I believe casinos can sell alcohol 24/7. However, Ocean City is still the only dry town in the state.

I just heard on the radio that this isn't a dead issue yet. Apparently, the DA and Philly police have a strained relationship and allegedly the DA announcing no charges will be filed is supposedly done out of spite but we'll see.

Doesn't surprise me, it's Filthadelphia. Been in this city many times for work and it has to be one of the dirtiest towns going. Now Chicago which I have also been to many times is a lot cleaner.

Philly is a dump. I hate driving there. I'll drive all day in NY but Philly is a nightmare to drive.

Never drove through Philly except to get to NJ (Camden) usually took the Amtrak to 30th St and then the regional to center city. Used the local subway if I had to go elsewhere. Did a lot of work for SEPTA and DRPA (PATCO)
