Surprised by this one to say the least. Martz made Jon Kitna look like a Pro Bowler.

Not surprised by it at all. They passed on Quinn because of this dufus. And, Kitna has been pummeled in his scheme and has more INTs than TDs because of it. His offense just cannot win in the NFL the way he's running it. Some of his Rams teams could have 3 or 4 turnovers a game and still win. But, that's not going to work in 90% of NFL cities every year.

The rumor(so far) is that Martz is being looked at by SF. If he goes there will he recruit Warner or Green to come and ease the transition to his offense? I think Martz's scheme needs a stud running back more than flashy receivers. Holt and Bruce were perfect because of their quickness and precision. Even Furrey and McDonald made it work pretty well.

He cant recruit Warner nor Green. They are both under contract I believe.

Technically speaking you are correct but it seems that both Green and Warner may be available if Martz(if he was the OC on a team) wanted to make a deal for them. I'm sure the Dolphins and Card's wouldn't put up much resistance if for nothing else to get their salaries off the cap.

Green will never play another snap in the NFL.

Why would Warner want to play for the guy that benched him and ran him out of St. Louis?

Also, Kitna was a sub .500 QB before Martz and is a sub .500 QB now.

The Cardinals would not trade Warner to a division rival.

I hope he does go to SF. To me their big weakness is there WR, who would Martz throw to? He had great WR in Detroit and St Louis will be different in SF.

Thats why they would land the great Bryant Johnson.

If Martz goes to S.F. our sack totals will go through the roof and Smith would be injured by week 3.

I don't doubt that the 49'ers will make a run at Martz, but I think it will end up badly if they land him. Martz system relies on a big arm QB and Wide Receivers who can make circus catches in traffic. San Francisco has none of that, and Gore isn't the type of Back that Martz likes to use either, cause he's not a speed receiver out of the back field. Martz is a bad fit for the 49'ers, but they might go after him just out of desperation to fix their offense.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Detroit fired him, his offense is the only thing that gave the Lions a shot this year. He managed to make something out of a QB that no one wanted (Kitna) and Detroit might have been better served keeping him and trying to add talent in the off season. Now they will have to once again, re-do their entire offensive scheme.

I'm not a Martz fan at all, but this was a bad move by the Lions.

Didnt Martz run Warner outta town in StL? This makes no sense.. Why does everything have to revovle around Warner with you?

Martz can be hired as Cards OC next year and when Whiz is fired in couple of years, he can be promoted to the head coach... :ducksandruns:

He's still on the sidelines of the Lions' game, is he officially released at season's end?

Green is done, and Martz will never bring Warner in whereever he winds up. He's burned that bridge.

The biggest reason for criticism of Martz in Detroit is the evaluation of talent. His commitment to Kitna was loco. His system, on a team where he's given no say over who is signed or drafted, might work. Personally, I wouldn't hire him. I'd hire the '99 version before he got a swollen head, though.
