6 yr contract extension - He'll be a hawk through 2015

40M over the 6 yr extension with 16m in guarantees - not a bad deal with the way contracts are going

one of my favorite players in the league - glad to see he'll remain a hawk - a whole bunch of other guys restructured as well - now if trufant would sign a deal that would help

really odd offseason so far.............

If my last name was Bread, I'd name my son Lofa. Just think, his middle name could be Wheat or White or Rye or maybe even Stale.

Have you been drinking? I am.. And that is classic..

Wish I could Gee. I had to give it up about 5 years ago. Enjoy it while you are young my friend. Some of my finest hours were spent in a drunken stupor.:D

The guy can certainly play. That is a tremendous deal for the Seahawks in my opinion.

 It took them longer to sign Lofa then it took the Cards to sign Fitz. How do you figure that is quickly?
How did it take longer to sign Lofa? He's only three years into his rookie deal. Are you saying it took less time to sign Fitz because he was signed earlier in the offseason than Lofa? The logic behind that would be silly. Tatupu got signed far before it became a crisis. I'm pretty sure that's what the original poster was getting at.

$40 Mil for this guy is ok, but $40 Million for one of the best receivers in the NFL just doesn't suit most people on this forum. Not mad at you

How long was his contract? Fitz is only in the fourth year of a six year deal. Did Lofa have escalators in his contract? If so, did he hit the escalators? Did he take less than what his original contract was supposed to be for? How long have they been working on his contract extension?

Trying to compare the two is apples to oranges and that's why I questioned atuw on it.

First off, I'm not trying to be argumentative so my apologies if it's coming off that way. And I do agree with you. It is apples and oranges when you compare their contracts.

That being said, just guessing but I think what the other poster was trying to say is that the Fitzgerald issue should have been dealt with far before it got to the point it did. Realistically speaking, there was at least a 50/50 going into last season that Fitzgerald could get to his second Pro Bowl since he had always been to one and has clearly shown that he can have a Pro Bowl year at any time. I'm thinking the other poster was saying "See, you can get players re-signed before it becomes a nightmare."

If the Cardinals had tried to sign Fitzgerald long term last year (and who knows, maybe they did), maybe they never would have gotten to the point where he had them over a barrel. Again, I think that's what the other poster was getting at.

Just a little devil's advocate but I think Seahawks fans would be freaking out as well if Tatupu had signed a four year deal for $40M. It's not just the total money but the $$$ per year that's important. Fitz is averaging $10M a year while Tatupu is averaging $7M. Fitz is an unbelievable receiver but that is a serious chunk of cheese per year.

I agree with your opinion on Fitz. He's definitely one of the top receivers in the league. But I can also understand where people might be sticker shocked at $40M over four years with 75% of that guaranteed. That's a lot of cap space even for the best players in the league (which would include Fitz).

You must not be informed too much.. Either that or just come and read and post on this forum when you got an agenda.. Were talking about this offseason, not years numnuts..

Yeah, that makes a ton of sense. Waiting until Fitzgerald's contract situation is at a disastrous level is "sooner" than re-signing a guy a year before his contract ever becomes an issue as long as it happens two weeks earlier in the current offseason. That is absolutely brilliant thinking.

I'm pretty sure that's what you're talking about since it fits your purposes best regardless of how little sense it makes. At the end of the day, if you're happier with the way your front office is handling things, I'm happy for you. I don't blame you for spinning it in any way that you can to make it seem like your front office handles things in a "timely manner". With a front office that shares your logic regarding signing players in a timely manner, it's no wonder they lose year after year.

;)
