Makes sense that his entire good guy persona was just a marketing scheme for the nfl and advertisers. I'm sure they would do anything to keep it going.

How do you define "good guy?" What standard are you using? How do you know that he's not a "good guy?" [emoji848]

To me it's simple, if the part of the story is true that says they asked a teammate to lie and when he refused, the teammate lost his scholarship.

a good guy even at that age does not let a teammate lose his scholarship to CYA.

It's why to this day I can't stand Doug Gottlieb now a sports personality. At Notre Dame as a freshman he got caught stealing and using a credit card and was expelled under the honor code. Because he knew they couldn't disclose that for privacy reasons, he starts telling the LA Times he transferred because ND couldn't offer everything he wanted. I get he was a kid and kids make mistakes but to throw ND under the bus because he knew they weren't allowed to tell the truth showed his true character. Luckily a school reporter found out the real story and exposed him.

That part of the Manning story is very similar, to protect his own reputation he allowed someone else to suffer, completely wrong.

Again if true but given the way that came out, it appears it is true.

The racism stuff sounds like it came more from his dad than him.

I don't know that we'll ever know the full details about the other kid being "forced" to lie by Manning and/or the school... All I know is that, be it Manning or Brady or Favre or Cam or Wilson, etc, etc, etc... Our society, like never before, is hell-bent on digging up crap, regardless the accuracy, to be used to discredit athletes who are on top of their profession. Media, and those of us who consume their crap like its candy, are frankly, sickening to me...

The media didn't really dig it up, a Title 9 suit put it in the public domain.

Manning has talked about it twice himself and got in trouble over it so I don't think he now has a right to expect us to not talk about it.

The story is fairly clear, they asked the teammate to lie about it and he refused to said no he never mooned me that did not happen. He didn't say manning did what the accuser said, he just said the mooning thing did not happen. And he lost his scholarship.

To me that means Peyton and his family let that kid suffer to protect Peyton.

The kid's deposition was under oath, was it not? Unless everybody missed it, he hasn't faced perjury charges for lying, so we can assume his deposition was true and Manning in fact did not moon him. I suppose some can dismiss what Peyton did as a juvenile screwup (it's still sexual assault), but the lying, defamation, refusal to accept responsibility, and throwing others under the bus to cover his ass is what makes it worse. As always, it's the cover-up that gets you the biggest scrutiny.

It's a title 9 case there are 12 incidents that UT is being charged with mishandling.

The reason she has filed 3 claims is the original one was settled, part of the deal was neither side could talk publicly about it. Then Manning wrote a book and defamed her in the book, she sued, and won because of the NDA. Then Manning went on ESPN and defamed her again, and she sued and won again.

If Manning keeps violating the terms of the agreement, she has every right to keep suing him.

If you read one account it reminds me of the old atomic situp. Look it up.

I know what those are.

Peyton and I are the same age. I was in the military in 96. Pretty sure I saw plenty of atomic sit-ups happening regularly.

Still, take balls (no pun intended) to do this to a female. I wouldn't do that.

I think that twenty years the skeletons are out of the closet. As really if anybody is the POS it is Shaun King! The writer of the article.

I'm not debating that this kid lost his scholarship. That is obvious. However, though I could've missed it, it seems much less clear as to why he lost his scholarship.
And yes, Peyton referenced the situation with the doctor in his book, which was stupid and actually against the terms of the settlement he struck with her. So yea, he rattled a cage that should've been, could've been left alone...
Nonetheless, I stand by my earlier comments... I think it's the height of hypocrisy for people to judge a person today, for a sketchy decision made when he was 20 years old. He didn't murder someone. He didn't rape someone. In fact, we really don't know what he actually "did." And yet, because he is who he is, the media and their sheep clamor at all costs, even to the point of manipulating information to fit a preconceived notion, to tear a guy down...
Heck, I've never even been a Manning fan... I've always been more of a Brady guy. But this sorta crap is just so wrong and continues to speak volumes about our diseased society...

Agreed! It's as if society is sticking its naked butt right in Manning's face! :soapbox:

Sure but he used his position as a member of a wealthy and influential family to get away with it in a sense. The woman lost her job, she changed jobs to get away from this. The teammate lost his scholarship, near as we can tell entirely because he declined to go along with the lie that was being orchestrated by higher ups in the AD, under pressure from Manning's dad.

I get that he didn't rape or kill someone but even at the tender age of 20 you're not supposed to go around doing something stupid and then instead of being accountable for it, you go out and try to get someone to lie for you.

as someone else said, it's not the deed it's the coverup.

To be fair, I strongly suspect this was the dads idea not Peyton's, and maybe he was too young and not mature enough to put his foot down.

But the reason we're hearing about a 20 year old story is they buried it for 20 years.

I agree with everything you said except for the bolded part. She agreed to a cash settlement that settlement was for her pain and suffering. So I don't agree he let someone else suffer she could have not accepted the cash and pursued charges. Then he would most likely have suffered along with her.

I meant the teammate who lost the scholarship. That said, she suffered too, she had to leaev a job she probably liked just to get away from the situation.

I also don't think Manning would have suffered, I don't think UT would have done anything that's why the Title 9 case is ongoing, they weren't effectively investigating these cases.
