Because franchise QBs are hard to come they are number 1 priorities when it comes to getting paid. ATL is going to have to make some tough decisions as other cornerstone pieces such as Vic Beasley, Jake Matthews and others are all coming up in free agency, they had $34M in cap space next year but Ryan's new deal will use up most of that. If Humphries doesn't work out either for injury or play purposes, Matthews would be a nice FA pick up.

Look at the top paid players in the NFL and their playoff records:

Matt Ryan($30 million for 2018): 4-6 playoff record, 1 Super Bowl(lost)
Kirk Cousins($28 million): 0-2
Jimmy Garoppolo($27 million): 1 playoff appearance in garbage time
Matthew Stafford($27 million): 0-3
Derek Carr($25.005 million): No playoffs
Drew Brees($25 million): 7-6, 1 Super Bowl ring
Andrew Luck($24.594 million): 3-3
Joe Flacco($22,133,133): 10-5, 1 Super Bowl ring

The top 10 are rounded out by Rodgers and Wilson both each have a ring. Funny how the top 5 have 5 playoff wins between them and yet they're the highest paid.

The price of mediocrity.

Carson Wentz needs not to rush things. Not to mention that Nick Foles deserves to start in week 1.

Agree with the caution on Wentz but I will not say Foles deserves the right to start over Wentz if Wentz is ready. Wentz is clearly the starter. He simply is a better QB because he has more ability than Foles and survived his second year with tape on him. Wentz proved more in a season to give Foles the opportunity to achieve, playing a Patriot defense which was unable to apply any pressure, a Patriot defense one would think Wentz would have exploited too. Foles deserves Super Bowl MVP by all means but not the starting role, which is nothing to complain about in my opinion because Foles will get traded sooner or later and have his payday in the sun... that is Wentz's team for good reason and Foles is a great backup for good reason till Wentz can fully take charge which he has shown he can
