They owe him 13.7 million dollars for this season, and another 26 over the next 2... So they basically paid 42 million dollars for Smith to stay away from their team... wow.

It's amazing how his value plummeted that they could do nothing with him except get rid of him, zero interest for him across the league. Thoughts on this move?

EDIT: apparently they used a stretch provision on him, so his salary will be streched out over 5 years.

I knew they had chemistry issues but I'm surprised it came to this.

I actually think Smith the basketball player would do decent on this team. He is (or was at some point) a terrific athlete who could play some defense.

That being said, Smith the team cancer probably isn't worth it.

They had a log jam just like we do. I would take the gamble as a high bidder. Now is the perfect time to try it. If things don't work out we can just sit him down. Tucker, Kieff, and Len are keepers down low. I'd gladly let Smith take anyone else's spot other than those 3.

With Lee and Bogut having injury issues, I bet he is a Warrior.

I doubt a contender wants to screw things up with adding anyone that would get more than rotational minutes. Warriors have been doing fine without those two ever since they signed them, they've never been healthy.

It looks like the Rockets from what I've read but I don't know what the original source is so who knows.

In a much more limited role than what he had in Detroit he will probably be a pretty good player. I bet playing along side some respect vet like Paul or Wade would get him to curtail his idiotic shot selection. If a middling team like ours picked him up with no one having the credentials to challenge him he would be the same Beasleyesque offensive player that he was in Detroit.

Some contender will gobble him up and revive his career as an ace bench defender and energy guy. Unless he is far stupider than I suspect and instead some contender will pick him up and he will destroy his career by playing the same idiot style that he was in Mo-Town and that team will cut him before the season is over.

The Rockets aren't standing pat and they have had a rash of injuries to their front court. If they added Josh they'd have a worse logjam in that area than Detroit - were they all healthy at once. I can see the appeal he'd have for them as he's one of the best passing big men in the game - this season he's averaging more assists per 36 than Goran is. I won't be surprised if they get in the bidding.

Holy crap! I cannot believe they waived him. I know there were issues, but that is a LOT of money to pay someone to go away.

Looks like we are out of the Josh Smith sweepstakes.

Mavericks, Clippers, Kings and Heat are all interested in signing Josh Smith. He is having a career low season.

I did a little research....:)

Told that yes, the Rockets would be interested in Josh Smith after he clears waivers. Were interested in '13.

In 2010, Dwight Howard was the best man at Josh Smith's wedding. http://straightfromthea.com/2010/08/03/inside-josh-smiths-atlanta-hawks-wedding-photos/

I'm not going to post them all but there are more tweets in the sports illustrated article.

Rumour has it when Josh Smith heard he'd been waived, he threw his playbook at Stan Van Gundy and missed by three feet.

Oh God, I hope the Suns were never in those sweepstakes. Another ball hog that has never met a shot he didn't like. Bledsoe, IT, Green, Morris, and Smith- that lineup would lead the league in the least number of passes.

Lol at the Suns reportedly being interested in Josh Smith and Stephen Jackson.

It kinda makes sense because it's clear that the Suns want high volume chuckers like that as seen in the acquisition of guys like Bledsoe, Marcus, Green, IT etc.

ISO ball for dayz.

It is a mistake. He mis-typed Josh Smith. Nobody has interest in Stephen Jackson.

He would have had to mistype "swingman" too, which is unlikely. I'm guessing he typed what he meant to type, but it's still probably nonsense.

Jackson is only 36, it turns out.

He may be 36, but he hasn't been relevant since he was 30 or 31, if I remember correctly, when he was playing for Golden State.

I had to do a double take when I read his age. He was part of a heralded recruiting class at UA with Mike Bibby. Jackson failed to qualify academically and the Cats went on to win a National Championship that year without him. It seems like Bibby has been over the hill for a decade now and with so many players succeeding late into their 30's, I just kind of put Bibby and Jackson in the 40+ box. Anyway, I don't believe the rumor that we're interested in Stephen. It makes no sense (to me). Smith could fill a hole if he were inclined to but the player he's been the past few years does nothing for us. So pass, on both.

Steve
