IMO, if the Cards lose out on Murray or Peterson, I'd like to see them bring in Matthews...Because of his injuries, he can probably be had on a prove-it type deal...When healthy, he's the type of back needed to compliment Duke. He gets North and South and has decent hands out of the backfield.

Without drafting a back in the 1st couple of rounds, I think he's the 3rd best option left in FA/Trade.

BTW: Listening to SD radio, they are concerned about losing him, even with his history of nagging injuries...They aren't ready to give up on the kid.

Thoughts?

Maybe, I think I would rather just draft someone if we miss out on ap.

The guy I want nothing to do with is McFadden, he is shot, why the cardinals would have interest in him baffles me.

He's a great talent, but I want a bruiser.

That said, I'd never be upset adding him.

He is interesting for sure. The injuries are a concern, but he is really talented. A great compliment to Ellington, and could potentially be "the guy" for a team.

I'm tired of having running backs that are made of glass and Matthews is not only made of glass, there is a tough of paper mache in there as well not to mention he has trouble holding onto the football.

Mathews fumbling issues was early in his career, hasn't had that problem past 2 years he's learned.

Lots of RBs had fumbling issues early in their career, hell look at LT and AP.

Are we talking about the same Ryan Mathews? Because in 2013 he fumbled 7 times and last year 3 times but he only played in 8 games.

Where are you getting your info from? I'm checking NFL.com and it says he only fumbled twice, losing just one in 2013. And being as someone who actually watches all his games, I don't remember him losing many fumbles after his first 2 years in the league.

Look at his last 3 years

According to what I was able to find Matthews doesn't fumble at any extraordinary rate compared to other RBs. This is rate of carries per fumble so this is the average number of times a RB fumbles based carries. AP is not included since he did not play in 2014.

Now in fairness I took Matthews last full season which was 2013 and the others are from 2014.

Matthews - 1/142
Lynch - 1/280
Murray - 1/131
McCoy - 1/104
Charles - 1/51
Lacy - 1/82
Hill (Cin) - 1/55

Even if I take Matthews total carries for 2013 and 2014 it's still 1/119.

Seems to me he is no more a threat to fumble than most RBs in the NFL.

Why does someone always have to ruin a perfectly good argument with facts? :D

Well...I guess this would rule out Murray to the Eagles, then.

Good point. Still doesn't take away from the fact that he's made of glass.

In 90 possible games he could have played in he has played in 60 of those. He has missed a third of the games, not exactly what you would call durable. I don't think that makes him undesirable. It makes him a good choice at the right price.

Evidently we're not interested as he's expected to sign with Philly.

Ryan Mathews :
2010 - 12 games - 678 yrds
2011 - 14 games - 1091 yrds
2012 - 12 games - 707 yrds
2013 - 16 games - 1255 yrds
2014 - 6 games - 330 yrds
Receiving total- 146 catches 1110 yrds

Demarco Murray:

2011 - 13 games - 897 yrds
2012 - 10 games - 663 yrds
2013 - 14 games - 1131 yrds
2014 - 16 games - 1845 yrds
Receiving total- 171 catches 1200 yrds.

Not much difference imo, considering Dallas spent 3 first round picks on O-line. Chargers spent 1. Especially considering that RM is gonna cost a whole lot less than Murray.

Ryan Mathews agreed to a deal with PHIL, he did not sign a deal. Question will be whether he signs if and when Eagles sign DeMarco Murray.

Well, Cards could go after Matthews if everything falls apart on AP. He might be available if Murray signs with the Eagles.

I think he fits right in with the All Injured Reserve Team that BASK is putting together.

My thought too.

Ryan Mathews has an unsigned 3 year $12m offer from Philly, which will be rescinded if they sign Murray.

That was the same offer made to Frank Gore.

He's had a few setbacks, but when healthy is a solid north-south runner, that nobody likes tackling.
