No he did not. Doesn't matter what he said or didn't say. He was vulnerable and the a whole punched him full blast 4 times in the face. No way that was simple assault. That seems IMHO aggravated assault. Lawyer help please. Panthers get sued on this one.

I'm not a lawyer but aggravated assault usually involves a weapon being used.

Now if the suspect is a professional boxer or he has specialized training, it might be construed his hands are deadly weapons.

The guy (Warren Carrigan) who posted the video had this to say when someone questioned what the victim said before the punch. It's in the comments.

"the victim put up with a whole lot of verbal abuse, before it turned into physical abuse. hear what you want to hear, but race had nothing to do with this altercation."

This was in that feed too.

By no means do I think punching someone like that is okay. But I’ve heard that words on both sides were said, racial slurs, words that shouldn’t have been exchanged. But also for the older man to ask him to sit down at a football game, c’mon it’s a football game. I’ve attended many Panther games and spend most of the time on my feet. You’re at a football game. It’s a way of showing your support for the team. Now with that being said, I don’t agree with the punching at all.

All over sitting down?? Both are nuts IMO.

Nothing at all. I just find it ironic and unfortunate that people are willing to boycott the NFL because players are peacefully, legally and constitutionally protesting... while the NFL has long been complicit in THIS serious problem... one that often involves people suffering real harm/injury.
What happened in this case is actually played out many times around the country each Sunday. The NFL knows this... but chooses ad monies from beer companies and related advertisers over taking meaningful action to remove this problem. It's an epidemic actually...

I'm a season ticket holder I have see this kind of thing a lot. Most of the time after the game going back to my car. I blame the morons doing it not the NFL and beer. I have a few beers every game for many years. I have never hit anyone or got in a pissing match over sitting down. And I don't need politics with my paid entertainment. I'm not on ether side of that one. I would rather they just not play the national anthem. Just like church and state I don't need politics with my paid entertainment.

Glad to hear you can control your beer. Sadly the same isn't true for far too many others...
And I'd be 100% behind not playing the national anthem at sporting events.

He got blasted by an a hole because he had to fight over sitting down at a football game. Have you ever been to one? My lord just walk away. Hell go get a beer and stand a lot closer than his seat to the game. Take a buddy with you and have a good time. You get a jackass from time to time every season if you go to enough games.

A few beers over the course of 3.5 hours shouldn't have you intoxicated unless you weigh 89 pounds soaking wet.

That said... I never drink at games. The game is drug enough for me.

Are you saying I'm fat? What a jerk I should punch you in the face. Now sit down and shut up.

Kyle Adam Maraghy, I'm guessing not Hispanic. Sounds like he was the one throwing out the slurs. At least two prior arrests for asault.

" Carrigan told CBS Sports the fight started because Maraghy and a woman he was with were standing the entire game and blocking the view of the victim and the people seated directly behind Maraghy.

Maraghy called the 62-year-old man a “geriatric fudge” and a "fa#$ot" then hit the man several times in the face and drew blood."

I have been taking my niece to games with me for the last 6 years at multiple venues. Never had an issue with fans.

The 3 or 4 times I have went with friends, fights have happened in front of me, back of me, cussing drunk fans in all bathrooms. The only time I had no issues anywhere was the rams game, when, PP his rookie year, was actually good at returning kicks and do so that day to win the game.

Oh yes it does matter, and if the "victim" was man enough to say a racial slur (which I don't think it was said in this case) that would provoke a negative reaction, then you are man enough to suffer the consequences.

Good reminder of how crazy things can get at NFL games. They're certainly among the roughest sporting events I've attended.

This is a different society we live in today, where people are confrontational & more eager to cuss, fight & even kill instead of being a civilized human being. Ugh :madarms:

This is exactly why I say nothing to asshats at the games I attend. In Philly last week the 2 guys in front of me stood 3/4 of the game with hands up in the air & I said nada. Most of our world is lost & hopeless cases of being human IMO.

Agreed.

And it is ridiculous. Let's hope this Napoleon complex'ed little P.O.S. gets the book thrown at him as he should.

The victim, who is 100% the victim, did nothing but tell the P.O.S. to sit down. Then gets punched in the face repeatedly. He did not retaliate, he barely defended himself. Thus the P.O.S. should be going to jail, having full charges pressed against him, and be paying A LOT of money in fines, medical bills, lawyer bills, and general civil violations.

Again, it seems like people are fighting more and more, which is madness since there is just more and more video an evidence in which they can be caught.

I hope beyond hope there is justice in this. Too many times I see Napoleon complex'ed little P.O.S. get away with this type of assault, because of their stature. If this P.O.S. was 6'4" and 240lbs, I guarantee he would be in jail already, and really hope this little man with an anger disorder was not given a light pass because of what he looks like.

This was dangerous, this was assault, and it should not matter what the assailant looks like. Physical assault, is physical assault. The victim left bleeding, and will be effected by this. Again, I hope justice prevails, and this P.O.S. is in jail, were he belongs.

That is the kinda person that I would love to get on a rugby field, and show him how small and weak of body and mind he is. .......in a perfectly legal situation, BTW.

Just a horrible situation.

I wonder why other people didn't come to the man aid. I know I would have. I don't care if they are panther fans or not, they should have held him until the police arrived. And if he fell down a few stairs in between time oh well it happens.

NO WAY!

That is a sure fire way to get all charges put on your head. It does not pay to help anyone these days, ever.

You just become a person who now is in a position to be sued by everyone.

I have been put in the back of 5 cop cars, without throwing a punch, and doing no more than just "holding someone back", or trying "to defend my friend".

Again, when something like this happens, the biggest dude in the crowd is going to be taken care of by the police first (not saying there is anything wrong about that, police are just coming into things without knowing what is going on, and why not take care of the biggest threat).

No. Unfortunately, the best thing to do is just video the situation, and stay out of it.

No good deed goes unpunished these days. Trust me, I would have loved to see someone just throw that P.O.S. right off the balcony, but that is not how it works.

We live in the nation where people who break into other people's houses and get bit by the home owner's dog end up suing the home owner and winning the case.

Seriously. Imagine if that was your father!!! I might have thrown him.over the balcony. Right or wrong....that is so bad......I'm still pissed.

OK. First off, agreed.

If that is my family ? Totally different.

Laws do not apply, I do not care about jail, police, or anything, that little man is going to be HOPING the cops come before I kill him.
