My thoughts are that I would rather see him go to Seattle then to have signed with the Vikings. That would have made the Vikings a much better team even though they are not in our division.

Housh has numbers that rival the best in the biz over the last 4 years, and he is going into a system tailor made for his skills. Matt Hasselbeck is a very happy man today, he'll be working with the best receiver he's ever had.

2008: 92 receptions 904 yards 4 touchdowns
2007: 112 receptions 1143 yards 12 touchdowns
2006: 90 receptions 1081 yards 9 touchdowns
2005: 78 receptions 956 yards 7 touchdowns
2004: 73 receptions 978 yards 4 touchdowns

Those don't exactly rival the best. He's passed the mark for 100 receptions once and 1000 yards twice in his career. They are good numbers for being a #2, but they don't exactly rival star receivers.

You have to be kidding. He has more receptions over this period than Fitz, Wayne, Steve Smith among others. He also was a pro bowler as well. His yards and td's were down last year, but certainly most of that can be explained by Palmer missing the majority of the season. He is a good #1, and a superior #2.

From CBS.Sportsline :

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Cincinnati Bengals

He's a nice player. He works hard. He's a good guy. He loves the game. But there are two things working against him: He doesn't run that well and he will be 32 this year.

In a lean market for receivers, he's the top guy. That will push up the money to a number way too high for what he is worth.

Is he a No. 1 receiver? That's the question teams have to ask. I say he isn't. Somebody will think he is.

There is a negative number that stands out when I evaluate him. And that's yards-per-catch. Houshmandzadeh averaged 9.8 per catch last season. In the past five seasons, his per-catch average has dropped each season, going from 13.4 in 2004 to his career-low last season. That's a player who is more complementary than star. That's why I wouldn't pay him star money.

Chad Johnson he isn't.

For a team looking for a second receiver, Houshmandzadeh would work. As a No. 1, I bring up a name from the past -- Alvin Harper, only he ran better.

As a cardinals fan, I'm not that concerned about TJ lighting us up to often. He's a good possession receiver.

I'm completely out of touch with the money side of things here though. 8 M/year for him? Fitz is earning 10, is Fitz underpaid ? wth?

Bummer! I was hoping he'd go to the Vikings. I'm not looking forward to playing him twice a year, even tho DRC shouldn't have much of a problem covering him.

GREAT NEWS!! (Sarcasm)

T.J. will DEFINITELY help Seattle. The Rams have added a solid center to strengthen their line, and the 49ers are trying to steal our QB. Meanwhile, Rod Graves signed our punter to a new deal. WAY TA' GO, Rod!! Didn't Nero play his fiddle while Rome burned to the ground?? Maybe our GM is following the same approach. I'm pretty disgusted so far. Last year's excuse was Fitz' contract kept us from making moves. This year it's Kurt's contract. Any dibs on the 2010 candidate to screw up our free agency period??

And over the same period they have more reception yards and touchdowns minus Wayne, who has two less. Housh's reception stats are padded since he is used in the west coast style which is revolved around short routes, beefing up his reception total by leaps and bounds.

He appears to be a good locker room guy, someone you won't have to worry about carrying a firearm into a Seattle nightclub and shooting himself in the leg.

I like the signing for Seattle. As a Cards fan, I would have rather it not happened.

Great signing by Seattle. He's not a long term solution but he'll help right now and if they draft Crabtree or Mackling that offense could go from duckling to goose real quick.

No moreso than Fitz or Boldin benefitted from eachother.

I'm not going to deny that Housh benefitted from Ocho Stinko, but Housh is a damn good WR in his own right. His route running skills and hands are far superior to Johnson's and he's in his own elite class in both of those skill sets.

He definitely can be a #1 target. The only downside on him is his speed, which I find to be overrated as **** at the WR spot anyhow. He may not win any foot races, but he's capable of breaking defenders and taking it to the house each time he touches the football. My view, if you are able to produce in the NFL, especially at a high level like Housh has, you've got more than enough speed.

Disagree completely. Housh is a possession reciever nothing more nothing less. That's why he was upset about not having as many suitors as he expected.

Lets look at facts. TJ was 6th in the league with 92 receptions last year but his yards per catch was terrible at 9.8 per reception.

For comparison Fitz had 14.9 and Steve Breaston had 13.1.

Tight ends had more yards per reception like Tony Gonzalez with 11.0 or Jason Witten with 11.8 per catch.

Calvin Johnson had 17.1 and Steve Smith had 18.2 per catch.

We have to work our way down the list of reception leaders to number 33 to find someone with a lower yards per reception and that is a running back. Matt Forte at #33 had a 7.6 yards per reception average.

Will he help Seattle? Sure but lets not make more out of it than what it is. He can help move the chains but he is definitly not a #1 receiver and he aint taken it to the house with that 9.8 average and he only had 4 TDs last season.

I for one am excited that we get to watch him play...I'd rather not see him in a Seattle uniform, but as a fan of the game as well it'll be fun to watch him live.
He reminds me of Fitz - he plays the game the right way.
