because both teams were owned by slime

Thank you, Jon. I was going to ask him how much time he had.

Two more thoughts: The only way the Coliseum will go away is if The Big One hits and it's reduced to a pile of rubble. The Olympic Flame is still lit when something major is happening or being commemorated in the city. Very exciting. And the average Angelino does NOT want the Raiders back. Rams, yes.

If LA fans were so loyal, how did they lose 2 NFL teams at the same time?

Ownership as DBack Jon stated

Al Davis wanted out of the LA Coliseum and thought he had a deal in place to get a stadium in Hollywood Park. It never came to fruition. In the meantime, Davis got word that Oakland would do a massive overhaul of their stadium. Packed his bags and left town.

The Rams were like the Clippers at the time so not very many people cared. Georgia Frontiere wanted an excuse to relocate the team to her hometown of St. Louis. Mission accomplished

I think people cared very much but they were sick to death of Frontiere and John Shaw her evil henchman. Team hated her. (My dad lived near the facility. I used to hear the players talk. They detested her.) The only tie she had to St. Louis was that she happened to be born there. They offered her a pot full of money and suddenly she was a St. Louie girl who longed to return home. (She was never a part of the Orange County community while the team was in Anaheim. She lived in Beverly Hills.)

Here's what I'm wondering: Her name is on the Ring of Honor (or whatever they call it) in St. Louis. IF the Rams were to move back to L.A., would her name be on the Ring of Honor in the new stadium? I can totally see people hanging massive banners during games to cover up her name. I can also see people CHEERING the team with tears in their eyes if a Frontiere-less ownership brings the team back home where they belong.)

Friday update from Goodell. As I said in an early post there is still a long ways to go as there still is no funding

Profootballtalk.com
Goodell: Financing L.A. stadium still very difficult proposition
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted at his annual press conference Friday that getting a naming rights deal is a positive development for getting football back in Los Angeles.

Still, he cautions that it’s hardly the most important step in getting football back to L.A.

“The financing of a stadium is a very difficult proposition,” Goodell said. “It needs to be smart investment.”

The issues surrounding a L.A. stadium symbolize the current disagreements between the owners and players. Goodell mentioned the need to recognize the costs associated with building a stadium and the need to incentivize owners. The NFL has mentioned repeatedly that no new stadium projects have started since the last CBA started.

Ultimately, Goodell said that a collective bargaining agreement is the first step necessary towards any new stadium. And the league is going to push for the CBA to include significant changes that they believe will help owners and the league invest more money in growing the game, including new stadiums.

The feeling from some here in Dallas believe it’s almost inevitable the Chargers will be the team to move to L.A. Goodell insisted he wanted to keep teams where they are when asked about a possible Chargers move.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a push to move USC into the new stadium. They could also probably host of the PAC-12 championship game or get into the BCS rotation. They'll make money either way.

Wonder what the Coliseum people think of this? Might as well just tear that place down.

Never. Happen. USC is all about tradition.

The Coliseum is sacred ground to Trojans, one of the greatest coaches in USC history, John McKay, regretted leaving SC for the NFL till the end of his days (McKay: A Coach's Story) and his last wish was for his ashes to be scattered over the football field of the Coliseum, his wishes were carried out.

USC is in negotiations to purchase the land under the Coliseum and the L.A. Sports Arena, since it is a historic site, the university cannot purchase it outright, but as a landlord they can demand greater improvements.

Jerruh Jones believes two teams will move to the L.A. market.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...jones-two-nfl-teams-could-move-to-los-angeles

I've kept a keen eye on this for quite some time because quite frankly it's an embarrassment that the NFL has no team in the 2nd largest Metropolitan area in the US. The AEG deal is leaking oil because of ownership issues, but the Roski City of Industry deal remains a solid option.

From what I've read/heard, the Rams have emerged as a very legit option. They want $700 mil in renovations to the Edward Jones dome and the city told them to kick rocks. The Rams can opt out of their lease in 2014, which makes them a suitor. This would be awesome for Cards fans in So Cal (like me) so I can see a live game at least once a season.

San Diego remains a viable option. They are still getting resistance from San Diego on moving away from the landfill that is Qualcomm. Logistically, this makes the most sense because of proximity and a solid fan base is already established. The Chargers can opt out of its lease every season until 2020

Raiders are a dark horse because there are still a plethora of Raider fans in the area, and Oakland wont give them a new stadium, which they share with the Oakland A's.

Not sure the Jaguars are a legit option anymore. The owner seems hellbent on keeping them in Jacksonville for whatever reason, plus their opt out penalty is egregious.

That said, my order is as follows:

1. San Diego
2. St. Louis (a close 2nd)
3. Oakland
4. Jacksonville

If both the AEG and Roski deals are solid, there can legitimately be two teams back in L.A. Rumors are that the team(s) that decide to move would start off for one or two seasons in either the Rose Bowl or the Coliseum.

Interesting, to say the least.

I'd add Miami to that list, as well. They can't get financing for renovations. It would be a PR disaster if the Dolphins moved across the country (and kind of blow up the AFC East divisional motivation), but I think it's an option.

St. Louis or San Diego makes the most sense. Especially because you don't have to worry about the division alignments.

Los Angeles Vikings???

Not doing it for me. Though I imagine the players would be pretty damn happy.

There would be a certain irony if it is the Vikes. It would be 2 teams LA stole from Minnesota, and both bringing their Minnesota themed names with them as well as purple and gold. That said, I thought the Vikes were getting a new stadium?

Yep. Vikings and Niners are out for the same reason - new stadium.

Either teams are using the open L.A. market as leverage to motivate their current cities to give them upgrades or new stadiums or they're gonna move out here to Tinsel Town.
