Per ESPN sources, the Suns are trading Jusuf Nurkic and a 2026 first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic and a 2026 second-round pick.

hornets have 87,000 draft picks and we end up giving them a first

this was one of those offers - where the guy comes by the table and says "lmk if you don't get rid of nurk, i won't give you anything for him but ill kindly take him off your hands"

Do you think there's any credence to this?

But why LA? Its a bad trade but they could have done way worse if they wanted to stick it to the fans.

Lost me towards the end when he said Kyrie signed in FA to play with Luka and Klay signed because they gave him a higher chance of winning than GS. Kyrie was traded there, did re-sign but no one else was offering him the money he wanted. Klay felt disrespected by not getting a top level extension from GS so he left to Dallas for a payday.

Now I recognize those are only 2 small pieces of the whole narrative but presenting those like he did ruins his credibility.

The deal is not completely horrible really.

We are completely dumping Nurks contract for 1 year and only moving down in the draft from the 20's to the 50's.

This means Ishbia no longer thinks this team will compete and is looking to save some money - which means he has started to face reality.

Which means KD will get traded after the season when we miss the playoffs.

Barring some historic run there is no way KD is on this team next season.

I'd say this should be a reality check to those who think Ishbia will continue to spend frivolously to contend or compete. This trade signals otherwise. They have focused on financial savings over competitive roster construction.

Yea but its not a lottery pick. Its going to be a high pick at the end of the first for a low 2nd at the begining. It was a decent salary dump.

Yes, it was a salary dump. I guess the Suns new owner is learning the CBA. Unfortunately, the lessons have been learned too late.

It took too long, definitely, but too late, I disagree. It's never too late to stop making stupid decisions. We didn't give up Dunn and picks to bring in Butler, that shows remarkable restraint given our current situation so I'm hoping it means better things in the future for us. Better things such as, trading our way out of this hole rather than trying to bandaid this mess into something it can never be.

As I view it, the Suns had three basic options approaching the trade deadline.

1. Make a trade to improve the team, preferably at the 4/5 position, so they could at least pretend to be a serious playoff team.

2. Start trading off assets to prepare for a rebuild, partial or full, to prepare for the future.

3. Do nothing. Actually, I think the Suns did worse by dumping Nurkic' salary… not even bothering to replace the vacancy in the front court.

I could have respected the first two options, but I never suspected the Suns would choose the third position.

Throwing in the towel without addressing the problem is unacceptable.

Replacing James Jones as the Suns GM might be the only mitigating factor. I no longer trust his judgment in making player personnel decisions.

I think we would have had to include Dunn to get a player that might help us at the 4 or 5 spot and I don't think there were was a player out there that would have made us true contenders. So the last thing I want is a futile attempt to improve now at the cost of our future. But the way this front office has operated since Ish took over suggested we were going to once again take a huge swing at a pitch that's bounced 5 times before reaching the plate. But despite all the rumors, we didn't swing. So, to me, that's a great thing.

I seem to be one of the few who isn't all in on the blame JJ game. I'm not defending this front office, they've made some really stupid decisions the past couple of years. If it's JJ making those decisions, we need him gone as soon as possible. But, if it's someone else (as I believe it is), we still need JJ gone but it won't accomplish much of anything. Not until we get rid of whoever is in Ishbia's ear.
