Utah wasn't exactly averse to getting out of a 21 million bucks for three years for a backup PG, either.

It also was pretty clear LA was one of the teams on the potentials. here's an article from then.

http://blogs.sltrib.com/jazz/2007/07/farewell-to-fisher.htm

Said Miller: "It's unlikely that he's going to re-sign for what he's walking away from, and he knows that. Now I think it's also unlikely that he won't play anywhere. He'll play someplace. He's too good not to and too many teams need a veteran point guard."

Fisher had been impossible for some Jazz staffers to reach since the end of the season. I know because I tried to set up a story about his daughter's first birthday last week through the team's public relations department.

The Jazz called Monday's press conference on an hour's notice - - leading to speculation about the futures of Jerry Sloan and Andrei Kirilenko - - yet Fisher was able to have a representative from a public relations firm in Los Angeles attend?

I'm going to guess that Fisher winds up back with the Lakers. He was the conscience of their championship teams and is still beloved in L.A. The Lakers have a starting point guard job that's open and there's no learning curve for Fisher with the triangle offense.
Fisher's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Fisher would not be sitting out next season and probably would sign during this July window for free agents. Bartelstein wouldn't say what cities would fit Fisher's needs but it's safe to assume they're New York, Los Angeles, etc.

Steve Luhm, checking in from vacation, gives us a list of NBA cities with retinoblastoma treatment centers: Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Memphis, Tenn., New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Toronto.

I'll admit I hadn't seen that before. That softens my stance somewhat. Now it looks like the Jazz were just reckless.

Good for the guy giving you static. Don't wear your crap in the other team's building without expecting to get harrassed like no other.

I guess its ok if its just friendly rivalry, but when it escalates to someone trying to instigate a fight with me, thats a different story.

I do remember because there was some discussion about whether Phoenix had what they needed.

The odd part was that Fisher had a very weak year in Utah: 38.2% shooting and 30.8% for three and 3.3 assists in 27.8 minutes. At 34 years old, I think the Jazz thought he was not really worth the price.

I still don't like the move by Fisher. Although the Jazz may have thought he would be signed by another, I still think everyone assumed it would be an Eastern Conference team close to NY and the daughter's doctor. I still think it Fisher's actions were disingenuous.

I guess someone made the case that Utah benefited by alleviating their costs by not having Fisher on the books. I guess you could say that - or how about the fact that their former player helped put a major conference rival at the top of the food chain, and his current replacement is 1/5th the player Fisher was for the Jazz.

Also - this idea that he gave up a ton of money this year does not equal the facts on espn and other sites. Last year he made $5.8M with Utah... this year he is making $4.3M with the Lakers. Where is the $6M this year that some are claiming as a loss?

Not $6 mil this year.

Utah was going to be paying him $21 million over three years. He's getting what, 12 mil from the Lakers?

The lakers are paying him 13.9 and change over 3 years. The Utah contract was 21 and change over 3 years I believe though not positive on time frame. The 6 mil comments were total, not yearly.

I blame the Jazz for being stupid, and it came back to bite them as the Lakers would not be able to beat the Jazz without Fisher at the point. Its kind of funny, it reminds me of the suns letting KT go, and having him come back and bite them right in the a__. Damn, wish I could be a dumba__ on my job and make millions like those guys.

All the skeptics are so quick to point the finger and belittle one of the true good men in the game today just because it's "Laker" involved.

Bottom line. Forget the basketball. Forget the money. Forget the contracts. Just take an objective and family point of view. Your a father of an infant, with cancer, who for medical purposes needs to live either in New York or LA. You know your job causes you to travel and the wife will need to have some kind of support sytem in tact. If you have never been through it, cancer, chemo, etc. can be heartbreaking and enduring. I cannot imagine watching your own infant child going through such a miserable experience.

So you have two choices.... Again, lets toss out basketball, money, career.

LA where his wifes entire family resides, or New York where you know nobody.

What would be your decision?

What makes the whole thing look bad is that Fisher's daughter is still getting treated in NY. What is the significance of LA having a treatment center for the disease if the treatment takes place in NY anyway? Fisher said he wanted to leave the Jazz so he could live near where his daughter was being treated but, in fact, he moved further from the treatment site. If something changed between when he left the Jazz and when signed with LA, about a month later, what was it? If nothing changed it certainly appears that he lied to the Jazz.

It is my understanding that she had the surgeries in NY and subsequent follow ups every 2 months while doing all other therapy and bi monthy medical treatments in LA.

I have nothing against Fisher's decision. Laker fan can make a good case for Fisher's choice to return to LA.

But Laker fan will also defend and argue that a rapist and a player who quit on his team this preseason is the most unselfish player in basketball, so always take their opinions as face value.

It's more than $14 million from the Lakers, and when you consider how much he's raising his profile by being able to start, I doubt he'll lose any long-term salary at all.

In a van...down by the river.
I believe that this is the fan in question here. Ok. I don't know if this fan has been identified or has come forth to either gloat or apologise.....but IF this picture is the only evidence to suggest that this particular Jazz fan was indeed referencing D.Fisher's daughter then i've got to say that it's not a cut and dried fact that this single millisecond caught in time was enough evidence to sentence this fan to an immoral death.
It sure looks guilty but maybe he was seeing double from all the $8 beers.
Just sayin.

I don't know what to say about that....

We fans do this all the time. If Michael Vick were to play another game in the NFL, don't you think at least one person would hold up a sign making fun of his dog fighting connection?

Hell, if I was a Spurs fan and I was behind the basket, I'd bring my iPod and some speakers and play "What's up Doc" (Can We Rock) right in front of Shaq. I guarantee that would knock him off of his game, or at least bring him a smile.
