Check out this website...funds to support wounded and killed special ops warriors and their families, created by two Navy Seals...Nice stuff (although a bit pricey) for a great cause
- http://forgedclothing.com/index.html

Another founded by Marcus Latrell (Lone Survivor) - Read this book... the story is incredible, sad, true and reflects the mindset of the community these guys operate in

I am an Army Corp of Engineer Veteran.

Whats different is that the 12B10 Combat Engineer MOS (job) is no longer in existance. They broke it up into several specialties from the older Miner, Sapper traditions.

We had 4 huge 3 inch plus thick manuals and and the Engineer Bible field guide. for demo, mines, bridges, construction, EOD, recon, infantry, urban warfare ect. trained at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri in freezing winter. -60 wind chill BRRRRR

Then I found out they disbanded my first regular unit assignment the 588th Engineer battalion in North Fort Fort Polk La. poof no longer exists within forcecom. (A Baily Bridge fell on me when I was 18 years old if that explains anything, but we broke the time record!) been limited to mostly fanhood ever since.

My 2nd unit was the 16th Engineer Battalion attached to the 1st Armor Division at Johnson Barracks in Fuerth ( Nurnberg) Germany. last all male barracks I knew of, called the ZOO! C Company The Quarry Home of Charlie Rock.

The Wall was up the world was different. The largest Army ever assembled faced West Germany on the East Germany and Czechoslovakia border. 167 Soviet Tank + divisions faced our total of 4 US divisions in West Germany. An Ocean of tanks and that didn't count their countless infantry and other divisions.

with a life expectancy of 7 seconds if war broke out, I'm glad it didn't, and I'm glad our families never had to see that, even though the soviet are gone now. we carry the soliders burdens so Our families don't have too.

I respect presidents that carriy the presidential burdens so Soldiers don't have too.

I carry thoughts and dreams for some that are no longer with us, but to live free and die old is all I want from Americans. but a free dinner at Applebees aint so bad either.

I give thanks for what I don't know this Veterans Day.

God Bless the Cardinals, lose win or tie.

40th Engineers sounds very familiar. I was with the 12th Engineer Batallion, 1st AD at the Coleman Barracks in Mannheim Germany in 93-94. Where you guys in Germany?

Actually, pretty close to where you were. The main base where the 40th Engineers are located is in Baumholder, about an hour and a half from Mannheim. We ended up in Idar Oberstein, about a half an hour north of Baumholder, due to barracks renovations. I also was in Bosnia for two tours while over in Germany.

Well I have taken a general consensus of every job that every ASFN person that has chimed in did while in the military.

I have concluded that you were all a bunch of behind the line whimps. My job was clearly the most dangerous and required the most physical skill and mental prowess. Yea I rock!

I went to the War Memorials on the Mall yesterday. Very touching and moving. The Vietnam Wall was packed with letters and pictures.

One was very moving, at least to me, a framed older B&W photo of a young man in uniform and also in the frame a newer photo of a teenage girl in a cheerleader uniform and a letter addressed "To The Grandpa I never met"...that got me, I couldn't even finish the letter and I had tears in my eyes.

Then to see the older vets just staring at the wall with tears in their eyes, hard to keep it together. I don't see how anyone couldn't appreciate their sacrifice.
