Yea…..those picks were 10 years ago. A decade ago.
Right and they couldn't keep up that success.

The Rams success in the mid rounds is mainly finding safeties, LBs, DL, and nonpremium positions.
Go look at their mid round picks as recent as 5 years ago. It’s been really awful. Now, compare it to LA’s & you see why they still have been a successful team despite Jared Goff dragging them down. Despite their QB. Seattle only made the playoffs cause of their QB, but no one expected them to go far due to the lack of talent Russell had to carry.
The Rams have been successful because they have an All World DT on D and a great scheme on offense.

Until Stafford gets real old, LA isn’t falling off anytime soon. Unlike Shanahan, McVay is actually worthy of his incredible football mind. That FO in LA is way too advanced.
I don't think they will either.

Google says Scherf is almost untradeable because he's on a 1 year franchise tag of 18 million so whoever took him has to have the cap room for the rest of his salary there's no way to offset any of it. so you get him now you have to pay him 9 games or about 9.5 million so you need that much cap room.
You would have to throw in an extra draft pick to get Washington to eat whatever portion of the contract you need them to like the Rams did for Denver.

In a van...down by the river.
That's why David Long has worked out so well... It doesn't always work. The Rams are great because of the top of the roster and McVay.
Yeah Long isn't any good. Then a guy like Donte Deayon(who?) comes in and looks good. He's been in the system for a couple yrs.

No one is saying the Rams don't miss, they certainly do. Tutu looks like a complete bust(2nd rd this year). The running joke in Rams circles is they can't draft well in the first & second rds anyway so just sell the picks. It's not really true but sound logic.

CB outside of Jalen has been a big problem all year for the Rams. I've watched a lot of their games since I live in Cali and my good friend is a Rams fan. Even Darrious Williams wasn't that good this year after looking like he could be a high dollar player.

Fuller has been ok, but him and Rapp haven't replaced John Johnson collectively.

I think the Rams move that hasn't been talked about too much in the media that was dynamite was trading for Austin Corbett. That dude is a real good OL and the Rams stole him away from the Browns.

It is a good trade for the Rams for at least this year. Can't deny that. I don't see the Cards making any more trades. Getting TE Zack Ertz was their big in season trade. They will miss JJ Watt but hopefully Zach Allen, Jordan Phillips and Corey Peters will fill the gap.

That's a point that I've had to come to grips with is that it's not just that the Cardinals were without Watt, they are also missing Corey Peters and to a lesser extent, Rashard Lawrence.

That’s because Seattle has rarely hit on the mid round picks unlike LA & Seattle has a HC that is stuck in the early 2000s despite having a future HOF QB while LA has a HC that is able to adapt every single year.
Good post! I peep you too over at ROD..lol

Heh this isn't true at all. The Seahawks glory years were built on later picks and castoff guys, not high draft picks.

And just like Seattle, the Rams aren't likely to keep up the success they had with non-premium picks.
You may be right if other teams keep raiding our coaches and player personnel folks. Mcvay took over Fisher's losing squad in 2017 and his worst year was 9-7 I say we're doing pretty well, "going all in."

No cap expert but the WFT site I read it off says you can't do that with a franchise player. It's by design they want teams to work out contracts or trade guys before they franchise them. Once they're franchised they make it intentionally harder to trade.

Ironically one of the "test cases" on that was Von Miller in 2016. The Broncos tagged him, he waited until the last possible second to sign it, they made it clear they weren't going to trade him so he signed a 6 year 116 million deal that he's still on now.

Could be wrong but the side I read specifically said whoever would get Scherff MUST have room to take on his entire remaining franchise tag amount.

Apparently many wanted them to trade him before the season for that very reason they were pretty certain he wasn't going to sign another deal with them.

Yeah, I forgot Lawrence. Cards have the depth, they just need to perform and stay healthy.

McVay is a great coach, without any doubt.

It helps when you have the best defensive lineman ever on defense.

Ramsey was 6 years younger though it made much more sense to sign him to a new deal.
The Rams will have 3/5 of the OL as free agents with really only Bobby Evans as meaningful depth.

Also Darrious Williams will be a free agent as well.

No doubt. But Fisher had AD for a few years before McVay and couldn't get more than 7 wins in a year with him.

I don't think we have a 4th rounder, either.
Here’s an update on their upcoming picks. One x 3rd Rd (Comp Pick), one x 5th Rd, two x 7th Rds.

  • 1st round (0): Traded to Lions for Matthew Stafford
  • 2nd round (0): Traded to Broncos for Von Miller
  • 3rd round (1): Own pick traded for Miller + Compensatory pick (Brad Holmes hiring)
  • 4th round (0): Traded to Texans in Brandin Cooks deal
  • 5th round (1): Own pick
  • 6th round (0): Traded to Patriots for Sony Michel
  • 7th round (2): Own pick + pick acquired in Aqib Talib trade

I'm not saying concede anything, I'm just saying I think this won't be year.

We need Vance Joseph to take a head coaching job LOL.
You see I don't get this. We have a top defense. Top 5 I believe. One of the very best at ppg (#3) allowed. Yes, we suck at run defense but if that's what needs to suffer to have one of the best overall defenses so be it. As long as we aren't letting them score it doesn't matter. If we were fully healthy on that side of the ball I would assume the run defense would be a hell of a lot better.

The talent is there my bud. I think a better scheme gets more out of the talent.

That Packers game is vintage Vance Joseph defense.
