The kid does give great camera, his interview being broadcasted on ESPN right now. Says he needs to earn it, says he was horrible when he started at A&M, and said props to Hoyer. He's saying all the right things right now, he isn't butthurt, doesn't seem rattled or bothered by the decision.

To be fair to Cleveland, who would that have been? Jon Kitna? Josh McCown?

That's a valid point. They can only sign what is out there. But even if a Palmer isn't out there, there is surely someone better then Hoyer/Manziel. I would rather have McCown.

Some people would say Schuab or Sanchez, but I think they're done, so I won't use them. Both flamed out, which is exactly what they're trying to avoid there.

But it's also not just FA. We dipped into the trade market, because there wasn't much there besides a good backup, probably marginal starter in Stanton. We can probably say that McCown is roughly that level and he overachieved with some great WR's.

But we had a pecking order. We got Stanton, because we thought he was better then what we had, including Hoyer. Then when we got Palmer, we got rid of Hoyer. We were clearly trying to find an upgrade, and had analyzed and rated each guys talent. When we found and acquired a guy a notch above, we let go the lowest notch guy. (except Lindley, a youngster, with years of control, on a team friendly contract)

I still think Vick has a chance to be decent, he just can't be relied on for a full season.

While there wasn't much there, I do have to say quite a few of the retreads do look better then Hoyer or Manziel.

They weren't beholden to anyone. They could of cut Hoyer and not drafted Manziel. But they chose this route, and thankfully Arians/Keim chose another. Maybe we got lucky and they didn't, but I don't think so. Just the way they handled this competition I think showcases us that. They genuinely believed in these guys.

They traded up and spent a #1 on Manziel. They could of probably pried someone away for the total price they spent on Manziel. Would some team with a youngish QB bite at that? Maybe, maybe not, but it's a lot to offer a team.

Heck I might have even tried to pry away Hasselbeck, not necessarily as a starter but to be in the mix. I would even take Pryor over Manziel or Hoyer.

Maybe after Jax drafted Bortles they could of tried to pry Henne away. Kellen Clemens? Lots can be said about Glennon being the future, but once they signed McCown, it wouldn't of hurt to make an offer. He isn't a veteran, but played well as a rookie and I think has more starts then Hoyer with a lot more tools.

Then of course there's the very, very little experience, but some hype guys like Mallet or Cousins.

They would go against the veteran theme, but still I'd rather have one of them then Manziel or Hoyer.

But it does all go back to how they view them, and maybe we're just hearing words through the media, but the Browns seemed to be quite excited about these two guys, and that baffles me.

So even if the options weren't great, they had better options then those two, and they chose those two imo.

I'm not even against them keeping Hoyer. If they had gotten one of the guys above and kept Hoyer, that would be better then where they are right now.

It wasn't great, they may have been relegated to only getting a marginal stop gap, but that's more then they have now, what they chose, and what they spent more then a #1 draft pick in acquiring.
