They are pretty hard to come up with because BYC issues make them tricky. I did however come up with one idea that would work.

I read on a Celtics board that there is a local rumor that Banks and Pierce will be shipped west this week in seperate deals. So I came up with this:

phx - out JJ/barbs In - Peja/Banks
bos - out Pierce/Banks In - JJ/Skinner
sac - out peja/skinner In - pierce/barbosa

Phoenix gets a no brainer. While Peja is a FA soon, his shooting would make him an amazing 3rd star on this team. Forget about the playoff problems, he won't be relied upon as heavy as he was in Sacramento.

Boston is supposedly moving those two guys, and DA likes Joe. They get a young budding star to grow with the amazing talent they have gotten the past 2 drafts.

Sacramento moves Peja for a reliable, creative scorer. It is also a pretty easy trade for them to make.

Boston may need a pick or two coming back, but what do you guys think? Feel free to post other ideas!

The way JJ carries rifts/resentments around, he would never agree with going back to Celtics and Ainge.

Who is Pierce rumored to be traded for? Marion? That'd make sense if JJ deal with Hawks goes through. :D

Haha fair enough.

There wasn't enough compensation for Boston anyways.

They didn't mention any possible destinations. From what people were saying, half of them said the reporter had sources and half said he was an idiot. From the sound of the thread it actually sounded a lot like a Gambo type radio personality.

I had read a few ideas on some different message boards about the Phoenix Suns sign and trading Hunter for someone like Luke Jackson. At first that sounded like a great idea, but now I'm thinking it's not possible. As I understand it the Phoenix Suns would need to use the LLE to re-sign Hunter scenes we do not have Bird rights for him. However the CBA does not allow doing a sign and trade when the player is signed using the mid-level or LLE exception.

If we trade JJ we need to get a legitamate C. This is probably our best chance since JJ's value is fairly high. Hunter is not starter material and Thomas is aging and undersized.

Some names out there:

Magloire NO
Harrison/Foster IND
Chandler/Curry CHI
Camby DEN
Kaman LAC
Dalembert/M. Jackson
Swift SEA

I would swap JJ straight up for Dalembert, Magloire, Chandler, or Curry and the others would have to be part of a package deal.

There are numerous reasons why certain guys are viewed as bad fits for the Suns even though they are good players. The most common problem is that the centers are too expensive to be backups and not good enough shooters to spread the floor on offense. If a guy can't shoot, his defender will stand under the basket to help against Amare.

Given a choice when playing the Suns, every team would pack the paint and triple Amare. The whole Suns offense is built around punishing them for doing that. Look at KT's mid range shot and you understand why the Suns like him so much.

This is why I liked a player like Drobnjak (sp), who has since gone to Spain, for the Suns. He liked the outside shot but was physical enough to play inside when needed. I thought he did this quite well in Seattle.

I also thought the 21 year Pachulia had many of the same skills but he was quite adept at working inside as well.

The Suns really need a high post center (memories of Bill Laimbeer) who can shoot from the outside.

Vlade Divac was the same type of player until the Lakers forced him to play inside as a center.

George, I think you have done an excellent job of defining what the Suns need in a center. The ability to hit the outside shot is essential. Ideally he would also have the ability to mix it up inside when necessary. This, of course, explains why Hunter had trouble getting playing time even though he was a defensive presence inside last year.

However, in the playoffs his presence was especially needed when teams like San Antonio (who could play big inside) were able to shut down Marion and Q on the inside, yet quick enough to cover the outside shooters. This is really where the Suns missed JJ. Marion and Q were relegated to just outside shooting as they were unable to get their shot off inside. JJ was able to drive the ball when covered from the outside whereas Q and Marion were forced into being just outside shooters with no fastbreak.

The Suns have to be able to spread the floor with good outside shooters at all five positions and obtaining a another penetrating PG than can dish the ball outside when Nash is on the bench would appear necessary.

The Suns, unfortunately, do not have a Ginobili on offense who can drive the ball inside for shots or hit the outside shot especially if JJ leaves. So if the Suns cannot drive the ball inside against a team like San Antonio (except Nash), the Suns have to shoot the ball lights out everywhere else on the court to spread the defense.

Again, a well worded observation that explains what type of players the Suns need, especially when the fastbreak is not there.

Don't forget that our most potent driver against San Antonio is Amare Stoudemire. From the high post, he can get to the basket every time. If he's working on his passing...look out.

Honestly, guys. Think about it. Offense is not our problem. Nash, Amare, Marion. Offense is not our problem.

LaFrentz could be had on the cheap if he is amnestied by the Celts. LaFrentz, like Thomas, opens the lane for Amare. JJ could be used for other components.

So ideally, the Suns need a good outside shooting center who can hopefully help inside (sounds like KT), hopefully a SG that can hit the mid-range shot or drive it inside when covered from 3 point range (maybe Raja) and a PG that can penetrate and create like Nash or who is at least a great passer and shooter (Barbosa can penetrate and shoot but is yet to be a good passer).

Now what players out there that are available that fit this description (at least in some measure) that are available for near the minimum or might be obtained in a sign and trade for depth? Of course the Suns may also have the trade exception and picks to help. Maybe the Suns see something in Diaw. I wonder if he can drive the ball inside?

I really, really like the idea of acquiring Peja Stojakovic.... I think he would be a problem defensivly but w/ bell and Marion at the wings it wouldnt be as noticable. I have not been an advocate for Peja while we had JJ but if joe leaves there is no one better for this team. That guy could just sit at the three point line and stroke it and i guarantee a shooter like that hits 50% from three with Amare and Nash on his team. Look at this squad....

Nash
Peja
Matrix
STAT
KT

bench

jjax
hunter (wishful thinking?)
bell
padgett
burke
Graham
Tischer
Barbs
someones back up point (banks? dickau?)
Huge team w/ outside shooting and athleticism and defensive role players coming in bell and KT thats all about the ring....

im starting the bring peja to phx thread right now.....

The Kings just traded for Bonzi Wells, why would they want JJ? I guess to start him at SF, but then again, one of the major reasons JJ wants to go to Atlanta is that he wants to play point guard, he's not going to do that in Sacramento.

LaFrentz used to have a nice outside shot and could be physical on occasion. However, I have not seen him play lately (it seems like forever). If LaFrentz still has a game (not sure), he might be a good fit. He used to like to shoot from the outside as well which was always a criticism from many fans.

You are right, but we need a shooter on the outside that can be counted on to hit the open shot.
With JJ there was no question we had that. JJ was also the player for the playoffs that could create his own shot when the defense can play harder and not get fouls called on them. (it never hurts to be able to handle the ball and be 6' 8" when doing so :) )

We need someone for the playoffs, not the regular season games.
I am not sure Raja Bell is that guy. JJackson is an excellent player, but not especially a player that can create his own shot during the playoffs.

The fact of the matter is, Barbosa is a guy that can create his own shot, he may never be a great point guard, but I think with his speed and athletic ability, he is going to be an excellent player.

I wouldn't mind Speedy Claxton as part of a Package deal from the Hornets. I think I like his game more than Dickau but I'd like to see, who the 5 teams were, first though...

I think Joe want to be "THE MAN" and he would play center if thats where the hawks needed him

That may be true, but that has nothing to do with the issue discussed.

No way would I want Peja on this team. He's choked so many times in the playoffs it's ridiculous. He can hit big shots in the regular season, but the pressure of the playoffs gets to him and more often than not he chokes.

MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
Career 34.0 .465 .398 .890 1.0 3.9 5.0 2.0 1.08 .10 1.61 1.80 18.5
Playoff 36.6 .419 .354 .902 1.5 4.5 6.0 1.3 .93 .21 1.33 2.20 17.3

As you can see his numbers are better during the regular season, especially his shooting percentage. It drops 5 points from the field and 5 points from 3 point land. At a time when you need to step your game up, his game goes down. This is why Peja should never be in a Suns uniform.

That's kinda funny, a lot of people would say the exact same thing about Shawn Marion.

Just a thought, hasn't Pachulia signed an offer sheet with the Hawks. Maybe the Bucks and Hawks can give us Pachulia as part of a sign and trade package for JJ.

I don't know how it would work, but he is a young center that I covet for the Suns.

He would be an excellent part of a compensation package for JJ.

They could say that, but I'd still take Marion over Peja. Both of their shooting percentages and PPG go down in the playoffs, but whereas Peja is a pure shooter, Marion can still D up and rebound, so Peja's scoring ability (or lack thereof) in the playoffs have a much more detrimental effect on his team than Shawn's does.

Oh chap, always so on point....my contention is that the whole "i would love to be a full time PG" is just Free Agent talk as thats where Atl. needs him most due to their abundance of 2's and 3's. If he want to go to the hawks, he pretty much HAS to like the idea of being the point. My center idea was just hyperbole that he would agree to anything they ask. Understood?

With JJ and Q gone we need a big time shooter...Enter Peja

Amare and Steves PPG goes up in the playoffs so it will off set Pejas lack of production....plus defenses cant focus on him with those two
