I said earlier if we had an off-season that included Rubio and Oubre, I’d be a happy dude all things considered. I’m pretty happy tonight.

Ugh. Only 2 years.

I guess that is better than 1
Seems like a compromise to me. He’s taking some security and also betting on himself in 2 years. Can’t blame the guy honestly.

Somewhat restores my faith in the organization after the debacle that occurred a few weeks ago, with the selection of college players..... Go Suns.

Do we lose Bird rights by signing him for only 2 years, or do we keep Bird rights based on tacking on to his previous contract?

If the latter, this is a good deal for both sides and sets each side up for the 2021 free agent bonanza, with the option for Oubre to re-sign again.

If the former, Oubre is definitely gone in 2 years, and the Suns have effectively lost half of their core (3/5, if you think Josh Jackson was salvageable) this offseason.

Either way, this is technically Oubre remaining a Sun, at least for now, so I will now honor my word and begin my 3 month hiatus from posting.

Yeah this is kinda getting the best of both worlds for Oubre. Gets $30M instead of $4M QO, so not a terrible gamble if he gets hurt, and he gets to renegotiate again in short time. His only downside is he has to wait 2 years for what he believes will be his big payday.

Suns get reasonable contract but no long term certainty of price concession.

Sounds like he wanted more than 15 million a year and settled for the 2 year to get to free agency sooner.

He’s betting on getting a big payday in 2 years so he won’t be slacking off.

Free agent class in two years is huge though.

Exactly. I don’t doubt he’ll work his butt off to get that payday. I always thought he had a good motor anyway and seemed to put in the effort every game.

Yup. Now he’s kinda in a two-year “contract year” so we should get him
busting his rump for two years. That’s a good thing.

Crazy to think a big payday is much larger than $30 mill guaranteed. Lol. What a life.

What this tells me is that Oubre has a really high opinion of his value, despite no one offering him anything over $15M per for two or more years.

Might also make him a more attractive asset to package for a star mid season.

Hmmn really wanted to lock him up long term. This is like him kicking the qualifying offer maneuver down the road for a year. He obviously wasn't jumping for joy, which makes me nervous.

Had Oubre been a UFA, he would've been offered more than 15mil annually elsewhere, but not by much. I think teams felt it'd be a waste of time pursuing him knowing the Suns were going to match almost anything on the table, unless he were money-whipped/

So with Oubre re-signed, how does our depth chart look like right now?

Rotation:
Point Guards: Rubio, Tyler Johnson, Jerome
Wings: Booker, Bridges, Oubre, Cam Johnson
Bigs: Ayton, Baynes, Saric, Kaminski

Lecque and Okobo will likely be in the G-League, and they will probably sign another big (Spalding, I assume.)

Fix this if I missed anyone:

Rubio/TJ/Jerome/Okobo/Carter/Lecque (one or two of these guys wont be on the active roster)
Book/TJ/Bridges
Oubre/Bridges/Cam
Saric/KamAsshole/Cam
Ayton/Baynes

Wonder if they’re still looking at bringing in another SG as has been reported. Not even sure who’s left in the market.
