Ouch - failing to aggressively go after DeShaun Watson . . .

Watson was gone, I'm not going to bash them for that. My question is, how did they have Reddick rated as a top 5 player in the draft?

it comes from my biggest criticism of Keim: he over values athletic ability / under values the difficulty of position projections. I hope he learns and adjusts

i think Reddick will be just fine -- and i think 5 was over the top, but 13 doesnt seem unreasonable

That's pretty much just talk. Everyone says that with the guy they picked in the first round oooh were so happy he was still on the board.

What's with all this Reddick hate the guy looks like he's the goods at a much needed position. We will see

I dunno. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that he's played some 200 defensive snaps but only has 12 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 passes defensed, 0 INTs, 0 fumbles forced or recovered. He was not at all good rushing the passer on Sunday.

It's too early to start drawing conclusions about him, but it's not too soon to say that this guy has not been a breakout star like Joey Bosa, Von Miller, etc. I've said it before, but linebackers generally make a huge splash at the beginning of their careers or just sort of trundle along.

Dansby had a sack in his first 5 games as a pro.

Bosa and Miller are pass rushing LB's and were drafted as such...Who knows what Reddick may have done in his 1st 5 games, if he would have been played exclusively at OLB. Here are Bosa's stats in his 1st 5 games, though...(oh and he didn't play until 10/9/2016):

Total Defensive Snaps: 236
Total Tackles: 14 (Solo + Assists)
Sacks: 3
Stuffs: 2
Passes Defensed: 0
INT's: 0
Forced Fumbles: 1

Here is Reddick:

Total Defensive Snaps: 215
Total Tackles: 20 (Solo + Assists)
Stuffs: 2
Sacks: 0
PD, INT, FF: 0

Honestly, not a huge difference, especially when he's been playing a new position. I guess, though, if 3 sacks to 0 makes Bosa a breakout star, then he was and Reddick isn't.

Well, Bosa was defensive rookie of the year. I don't know what "Breakkout star" means to you, but I think that's a pretty good start.

Thomas Davis of the Panthers, playing a new position and not starting, had a sack in his first 5 games. Von Miller, playing a new position, had 5 sacks and 18 tackles in his first 5 games as a pro.

I mean, if you feel like there's no comp to measure Reddick's success or struggles by for any determined point in the future, then go ahead and say so. But it's not possible to say that the Cards are reaping a ton of dividend from the #13 overall pick in a loaded draft.

Myles Garrett has 2 sacks in one game as a pro.

Again, the guys you are measuring him against, especially for sacks, were drafted to SACK THE QB...lol As for Bosa being a breakout star, I simply compared their 1st 5 games played, that's all. It's completely possible that Reddick, if left to play OLB now, will see his play and stats soar...We won't know for a while longer, though.

Didn't we get a comment from Keim that they were content to see who fell to them?
.

Which means they didn't like any of them. If you like a QB, you don't sit around and see who falls to you. Kiem didn't have any problem giving up a pick to move up for Honey Badgers replacement just one round later.

as far as I have seen we have just started asking Reddick to rush the passer...

if you judge everyone by how well they climb a tree......

I love Reddick, but honestly in our situation should've secured our QB of the future with Mahomes and Watson available in a fairly attainable trade up. Now it looks like we may be forced to overpay for a QB in the next draft. That said, Watson behind our OL would've already broken the rookie interception record. Watson has mobility, but with no run game and being forced to air it out as a rookie QB behind the league worst OL, it would be really ugly. He could've learned behind Palmer though, which is why I will always question the call to pass on QB in the 2017 draft. Also Kizer, while looking horrible in a similarly bad situation, would have been a nice prospect in the 2nd with the opportunity to sit behind Palmer. Just disgusting in what direction we are heading with the most important position in the game. Dark years ahead.
