Unfortunately, I will be M.I.A. for a full week starting this evening... going on a fishing excursion up in Canada and will be without internet and cell service while up there. Should be fun, but it means I will miss the remaining pre-game build-up and of course, the actual game on Sunday!
Anyway, thought I would offer a few quick points before I depart:
- It's the o-line stupid! All the talk about our QB situation has been fun (NOT!), but in reality, our o-line once again holds the key to our success... If they can adequately protect and adequately run-block, the game this Sunday should be a snoozer... Then again, how many Cards games turn into snoozers?? I'm sure we'll find some way or another to make the game interesting...
As for DA, I see him doing well enough in his debut to not hurt us, but rather put the team in position to easily win this game. Nothing too spectacular in terms of numbers, but then, spectacular shouldn't be required against the Rams. 2 TD's with at most, 1 INT should be sufficient as Timmy should have a very good day (as he's done in the past againt the Rams). I also see DA using our TE's more than we've seen in the past, particularly when converting on 3rd downs...
- Defense: Can we actually find a way to apply pressure on the QB without all-out blitzes? Will Campbell emerge as a serious pass rushing threat? Joey Porter - what's left in the tank dude and can you be effective when not rushing the QB? ILB's - Washington as a rookie can only be expected to do so much. We remain extremely vulnerable, placing greater pressure on our d-line.
Secondary - can Rhodes show that he is in fact, an upgrade over Rolle? And while we know what DRC can and will do, what about the other side?? BIG step up for Toler and should he falter, do we really have quality depth behind him??? Lots to be proven...
Gotta see some leaders emerge and take charge. First game. Rams. Should be a situation where guys like Duece, Faneca, Sendlein, Levi, Timmy, Fitz, Breaston, A-Dub, DD, Campbell, Porter, Haggans and DRC all step up and take charge. Demand nothing but excellence and success from the rest of the team. The score should be something like 24-10 in our favor. With the Cards controlling T.O.P. in a big way. Let's see if this team can do what it's supposed to do - win what should be a very winnable game in convincing fashion!!
I don't get back to civilization until Monday night... Man I hope I return to news of a BIG Cards victory!!!!!!
