Some reason why.
3. With the Contract that moss has that he recently signed the Vikings would have to eat a huge portion of there cap space because of the excelerated signing bonus which ball park figure I beleive is at least 10 mill. Althoght the vikings have a ton of cap space left McCombs is even cheaper then Billy.
From Mortenson after the deal was signed in 2001.
Mort breaks down Moss' deal:
Signing bonus: $10 million ($7 million upon signing, $3 million due March 2002)
2001 salary: $500,000
2002 salary: $500,000
Option bonus, March 2003: $8 million
2003 salary: $5 million
2004 salary: $5.75 million
2005 salary: $7.25 million
2006 salary: $8.25 million
2007 salary: $8.75 million
2008 salary: $11.25 million
Pro Bowl bonus: $250,000 for last five years (2004-2008)
If Pro Bowls are achieved:
Escalator of $1.5 million for '07
Escalator of $2 million for '08
That's 8 years 75 million. The first bonus cost less than a million against the cap(7 million 8 years). The 2nd was 3 divided by 8 so now you're at 1.25 million a year in caphit. then he got an 8 million roster bonus last year, which I believe is prorated over the last 6 years, so you're close to 2.5 million a year in caphit. Salary this year is 5.75.
So by my figure he has ~ 10, 675, 000 left in bonuse to prorate.
however, I'm guessing at how they handle 2nd tier bonuses and option bonuses. I took the 3 and divided by 7(years remaining when he got it) and I took the 8 and divided by 6. If those are "one time events" and not prorated, then he only has 4.375 remaining off his original bonus so cutting him saves them 1.3 million in caphit this year.
Anybody know how roster bonuses really count?
