please explain.

They have no hand what so ever in this little back and forth.

Billionaires can out last millionaires.

CEO of companies can go do something else, most football players, if not playing a sport, can't do much else.

The players can play hard ball from here on out, and that is their right. But, it would be pretty stupid.

Again, the players have NO idea how good Gene Upshaw was at what he did.

For a couple of weeks everyone has been hearing how close the deal was to being done and it was all but complete. Now the players will come across as the ones who backed out of the deal and kept the lockout going.

The lockout has been lifted, subject to ratification by the players on a time line set by the owners. This is, as I said earlier, a proposed end and new CBA. It's a power-play without doubt, and there are certainly issues outstanding, which the owners would like to at least temporarily shelve. The players, in turn, want all issues settled before they agree to recommend the document to the membership and take the steps to re-certify as a union.

The smartest thing the owners did, other than to show a spirit for compromise and vote yes on the proposal today, is to make clear what the bargained terms are. When you look at how much they budged to acquiesce to the players' wishes---if the players do hold out longer now---they will lose all the credibility and will be perceived like Dems said as whining millionaires.

Because IMO they are. I thought you were saying that public opinion wouldnt go against them when you said "not really" was I mistaken?

One thing I've learned about public opinion... not enough people really give a damn, or even have the mental capacity to understand, nor do they pay attention long enough for this to have any real ramification. Just because a few people on a message board care doesn't mean the public cares. I swear I have come across very few people who give a *****.

One thing is for sure... I care less about this than I used to. I am really neutral to all of this. I just really don't see the point in trying to assign blame to either person.

As a business owner myself I understand costs better than alot of people, but I am not naive to believe that the players don't deserve more.

Imagine, Dems, if we common folk got these kind of concessions from our employers. Much of it wouldn't happen in a million years.

I could not agree with you more.

The CBA will more than likely be held up by the vast number of twinkie eating fatcats who were counting on being able to miss at least half of training camp.

These players act like going to work is such a tremendous ordeal.

Poor poor players, they are so put out...all at millions of dollars a year, as you said, Dems.

I don't buy the missing training camp angle Mitch. Then they have to cancel pre season games which all count toward revenue used to bargain with.

Sure---DeMaurice Smith says there are other situations such as workman's comp to agree upon---but ,really, the players made so much significant ground---if they reject this now---esp. to try to stall for another few weeks so they get a shortened training camp---I wouldn't blame the owners is they said go screw and pulled several of the compromises off the table.

The owners budged on a lot of issues here---they deserve a lot of credit for their willingness to compromise.

The owners are trying to save every dime they can. Once this effects the regular season I could see the owners removing the offer, and going back to letting the courts decide.

It is not like the owners are strapped for cash, or don't have other things to do besides run a football team.

The whole "The lockout will end any day now" is just a way to keep NFL network ratings higher, and website traffic moving. It is the carrot in front of the donkey.

There is too much money, arrogance, naitivity, and greed for this to not take a very long time.

Most are wondering when the season is going to start, I personally am still waiting to see if there will be a season at all.

Regardless, the it will hit the fan after next week.

Sure, but one thing is for certain.... there is no NFL without the players. Lol. I didnt know the NFL was a welfare case. Poor players should just shut their mouths and go back to work because hey they play football right?

Cause it is awe inspiring to watch people strangle a golden goose, and at a time where people in this nation are adapting and changing. Routines are being shattered, and people are re-prioritizing.

As you said most don't care/pay attention/etc./etc. so out of sight out of mind.

As a business owner myself I understand costs better than alot of people, but I am not naive to believe that the players don't deserve more.

Obviously, a down to earth owner as well. To put costs, and [employee] deserves more in one sentence could get you in trouble with other business owners. :D

I watched the owner's news conference pretty carefully. (Wish they'd miked the reporters.) Goodell and the others went out of their way to state all the concessions they'd made. I listened to it thinking that for them to say what they did, they must have had the Under The Table OK from the players. Meaning: Yes. We all agree. Announce it Goodell.

I'm pretty stunned that the players aren't giving the almost-automatic OK. Not after that press conference.

I also think a LOT of people care about this. Superbowl Sunday isn't the National Holiday it is beause people are ho-hum about football. The man on the street wants to put up his feet on Sunday and watch a game. They WANT this done.

Listen... I have gotten beaten down by this economy... I have seen the depths of hell IMO, but I will NEVER blame someone for fighting for all they can get. In the end no one knows what the hell is going on in that negotiating room, so to call someone stupid in this is just plain wrong IMO. You nor I really don't know what is being discussed.

Sure but not on July 21st. Come Sept 8th, 9th, or whatever date that the first real game is supposed to be played, then I will get upset.

Actually yes, and because most can't do anything else. That is the reality of that situation.

The NFL is not a welfare case, but when the majority have no education, and no skills. So, yeah, they can't do anything else.

As for the, there is no NFL. You think the owners care about that ? Yeah, so they lose there football team, they have there businesses and massive billion dollar nest eggs to sit back on. This is not their entire liviehood (sp?)

Without the NFL the players have: the USFL ? That is quite a pay cut, and for those who can't get in another league ? You are talking about a minimum wage job.

I think the players have more to lose. They have always, and will always be at a disadvantage to the owners. Trying to play hard ball will get them no where in my opinion.

As for shutting their mouths ? I very clearly stated it is their right to continue the labor dispute. So, while your sarcasm is very entertaining, I don't know where you are getting it from.

One more thing. I swear to G if Jerry Jones was in there negotiating.. I'm saying hell no to anything that guy is selling. He just comes across as a real ass. I am convinced that he is one of the reasons a deal has NOT been consummated prior to today.

I wonder who took the only jab at the other party 2day? Smith threw a left jab at the owners in his press conference 2day!!! Totally uncalled for if they are as close to an agreement as both sides have been reporting.

My sarcasm stems from the fact that you are convinced that these players would have NO OTHER avenues to pursue if there was no NFL. Have you ever stopped for one second to think that if there was no NFL that alot of these guys would have finished college? Sure there are exceptions, but not the general rule. It's so easy to say that since they got low scores on the wonderlic, or don't speak well they must be stupid. Why do we set the bar so low? I can tell you this, if there was ever a chance that I could have played in the NFL I would certainly not have given a damn about a degree in my early 20's.

Again, I clearly said the players where within their right to continue the labor battle.

As for calling them stupid, that is my opinion of the situation, if it makes me wrong then so be it.

I 100% agree, I and the rest of the nation don't know what is being discussed, but I feel comfortable in the fact that I believe it is about money, and who wants more.

Again, it is fine to fight it out. It is the right of both sides. I just find it stupid on both side. But, I think the players are really playing a role they cannot back up, thus are being stupid with the way they are handling it.

It is one persons opinion, and if you find it to be wrong for a person to have a opinion about a football related subject, on a football message board that is fine.

But, I will still state it when I please, if it angers you. Apologies for the inconvience.

To bad that ALL fans at ALL stadiums wouldnt boycott the first quarter of the opening day games. Let the players look around at the kick-off, and see no one there.

No it doesn't anger me. I think it's silly. I just felt bored enough to post on here after a couple months hiatus. It's clear some things never change. People will bitch about ***** they have no control over and get wrapped up in other people's finances. So be it. I thought we were having a healthy debate. Isn't that the point of this site?
