Pace, a five-year Arizona Cardinals veteran. began his career as a defensive end before moving to linebacker in a 3-4 front in 2007.

More like too bad the idiotic Cardinal organization couldn't comprehend how to draft players who actually fit into the team's scheme.

unbelievable

If Calvin thought he was under pressure here for "not being Terrel Suggs" -- just wait till he gets to New York.

Only a few years after a disappointing and unproductive stretch in which Calvin Pace missed much of the 2005 season following a bye-week accident in which he severely lacerated his right forearm and saw the Arizona Cardinals withhold much of his base salary, the hybrid defensive end/linebacker has landed a monster contract.

ESPN.com has learned that Pace on Monday afternoon reached agreement with the New York Jets on a six-year, $42 million contract. The deal, negotiated by agent Pat Dye Jr. and his associates at Atlanta-based ProFiles Sports Management, includes a signing bonus of $20 million and $22 million in total guarantees.

The contract, which makes Pace one of the highest paid linebackers in NFL history, will pay out $26 million in its first three years."

This is the exact quote from ESPN above.

THANK YOU FITZ AND YOUR ^&*() AGENT.

Not worth it for the Cards for that much. Pace broke out this year, but I really don't think he wanted to be a Card. He could have had a deal done during the season. I think he looked at this year as the best opportunity to set himself up financially and he did just that. Good for him.

Regardless of the Fitz situation, one cannot imagine the Cardinals would have been willing to shell out $22M guaranteed money for Pace, as much as he began to thrive in th defense this past year.

I still wish the Cards would have paid for Faneca because of his style of play and his leadership. But...the coaches remain high on Reggie Wells and he did improve this past year...so be it, I guess.

If the Cards sign Travis LaBoy, assuming he passes the team physical and the contract is agreed upon, this paves the way for the Cards to focus their first two picks in the draft on a CB and RB.

Let's figure it out. Pace had about 5 good games in 5 years. That's 4+ mill/good game. Hopefully Fitz doesn't want 4 mill for every good game he's had . I say this will go down as the worse signing of the '08 free agency and i didn't think the Justin Smith horrendous deal could be beat.

Even if LaBoy (or Odom) signs, I have a feelingwe might get a curve ball based on who's available. If a relative value at DE/OLB or OT is there, I think they take him.

...And darkhorse could be Connor, IMO, based on Dansby's contract.

Seriously.. what are the chances that Calvin Pace... THE Calvin Pace lives up to a 6 year 42 million dollar offer??

I mean.. this has to be up there with paying Adona Foyle 9 million a year right....

ITs AWESOME for Pace, but I just don't see how the hell Pace can live up to being one of the highest paid LBs in history, when last year he was arguably our 3rd best LB....

UNBELIEVABLE

I say our comp pick in '09 will have just as good a Cardinals career as Pace.
