don't do it man, don't do it - some people here have vendetta's - evil, evil vendettas - like mine with Rod Graves (cue ominous laughing here)

So you are assuming that RG isn't working with Segal to resolve this ?

Nope. What I am saying is all the chips are in front or Rod right now and he must make the first new offer to Johnson/Segal. Of course they want this resolved so everyone gets paid. It is really up to Graves to restart negotiations with a new offer and he should try and put together a nice intial offer to alleviate any hurt or pissed feelings. Mend ther bridge don't tear it down by playing hardball.

Yes I believe someone posted Jurecki saying that. Not a shock of course.

Imagine if someone was telling you that you should be buying a sports car because its rated higher than the minivan you need because you have 4 kids to tote around. Would you really give a damm about the rating when you know you need the minivan more?

interesting analogy, but conceptually flawed. you don't hold the exclusive bargaining rights to that sportscar for a year. if you did, you damn well bet your sweet arse that the dealer would be telling you should be buying it!:D

This one. As I said before, a deal will get done because everyone wants to get paid.

Some of what I'm reading here concerns other peoples' opinions of the Cards and that the Cards should be aware of and try to placate those people. I disagree. Most people have a bad opinion of this organization and that opinion won't change until the Cards start winning and those same people will have to look at the Cards in a different light.

Two of the top FA's that we tried to sign took less money to go elsewhere. This is what the Cards are faced with on a daily basis and rather than worrying about it, they need to become decisive and make their decisions based on team need rather than on public perception. As I said, public perception will only change after the team becomes a perennial contender.

Stout - While I agree the Cards shouldn't use the situation to low-ball Johnson or his agent, I do think the "supply & demand equation for wideouts has changed since Camp started.

I agree that offering Johnson a really unfair contract would be monumentally unclassy.

But I do think it would only be human nature for the Cardinals to feel they now had enough bargaining leverage to control the structural components of any future contract with Johnson.

The two things we don't know (unless we've bugged the Cardinal offices) are: (1) Who if anyone (on either side of the negotiating table) acted like a weasel and (2) Would Rod Graves act vindictively - either because it's in his nature or because he wants to make a subtle statement about himself and the Cardinal organization to shape future player negotiations?

Please don't misinterpert my statements about Johnson's relative value to the team as somehow "dancing on his negotiating grave." (It's in the Cardinals' interests - in future negotiations with other players - to treat Johnson fairly).

Like everyone else on this board, I'm merely trying to get "inside the heads" of the various actors in this drama to figure out what's really going on.

Unless I am a total and complete idiot (which is a possibility).

RG is NOT a weasel, I feel that suggestion of that is utterly ridiculous.

Before you come back Jeff, I realize you were not suggesting that and just being even handed and saying we don't know what went/is going on.

In fact we don't really know if anybody acted like a weasel, but I can assure everybody here that if somebody did it was not RG.

This does not mean he isn't a tough negotiator, but dangit, I've met him and to even suggest such a thing is patently unfair.

This is not making excuses for him or ODing on Kool-aid, it just reporting my impressions of RG and that ain't a possibility.:(

ah, he could be a weasle. i'm not saying he is. i have no basis for that. just saying that some people are really good at pulling the wool over other people's eyes. and i'm not insinuating that you're naive nidan. don't take this as an attack. there are reasons that conmen get away with what they do. again, i'm not calling rg a conman, i don't know anything about him to make such a statement. as a matter of fact, i'm willing to give his integrity the benefit of the doubt based on y'all's reports of him. but i just can't help remember fergy going nuts in the media which hurt our negotiations. i know rg's not fergy, but the fact that one professional could be such a buffoon just leads me to believe that anything is possible.

Ouchie, with this post, you have made it extremely obvious that you are an attorney. Doublespeak, tap dancing, and innuendo. You sir are a master at your trade:thumbup:

So...

Missing the team meeting and dinner has now turned into four days, soon to be a week. And hell, once it's a week what difference does another week make? Can't sign on Labor Day because it's, well, Labor Day.
After that, it's a friggin waste of time.
The 25th was the deadline. FAIL!!!

See you in Detroit, Bryant Johnson!

Meanwhile, "the Baltimore Sun reports Baltimore Ravens WR Marcus Robinson is completely healthy and is displaying the speed that at one time made him one of league's most prominent deep threats," and Billick is "extremely happy" with him so far.

This sucks. Where the hell is our first damn pick!!???!?

In the mean time, I'll continue telling my co-workers that everything's fine, that things are changing, and that they should get a flex pack.

Therefore; I will now compromise the integrity of this thread (as if it needed any help).
