The Packers are expected to waive ILB AJ Hawk if the sides don't agree to a restructured contract before a new CBA is finalized.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, "negotiations have gotten nowhere." Hawk played over 90 percent of Green Bay's defensive snaps in 2010, but they can't afford to pay his $10 million salary for 2011. If the sides are able to come to a new agreement, Hawk would battle Nick Barnett ($5.5 million salary) for one starting job. The loser might lose his roster spot entirely.

He is the SILB, yes? We MUST get him in here!!! I know he isn't as good as a lot of people make out, but he'd be 1,000 times better than Lenon.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. He just plays vicious and has great range. Pretty solid leader too from what I understand.

Would eliminate an immediate need at ILB in the draft as well, so we could focus on other areas of weakness.

However, I doubt we or anyone else will sign him before the CBA expires, but once the new one goes into effect, I'd love to get that ugly looking fella in Cardinal red.

His house has been on the market for some time. He knows he's leaving GB.

I think he's just being negative for the sake of it.

AJ Hawk would be a huge upgrade to what we have at the position right now. If this happens, make him a Cardinal, whatever it takes.

If we could add Hawk, Kolb, and Von Miller, this team would win the NFC West next year.

I like Hawk but wouldn't break the bank on him. He's not a big thumper either. I've met and talked to him and I was surprised how much smaller he was than I thought.

Do we know if he would fit as a Horton type player?

Hawk obviously didn't live up to the hype coming out of college but he isn't a bad player. He would be an upgrade at ILB for us...better than Hayes & Lennon.

in the 3-4, does he profile more as the "thumper" or is he more of the Karlos Dansby type?

Lennon-Hawk

You're right, statistics don't tell the whole story, im pretty sure Lennon spent a hell of a lot more time on the field than Hawk did.

Lenon: As in Paris Lenon... not John Lennon. ;)

1/3rd the player (and seems to have lost his on-field explosiveness) as Clay Matthews.

They can only pay one, and it ain't him. Before Matthews, and the injury, he was a stud.

Somebody while taking a risk, might just get a dang good player. But he also may ask for way more than he's worth. In other words, whoever signs him will be paying him like he's Clay Matthews, but instead you got A.J. Hawk.

But Clay Matthews is such a stud, it's hard to judge in comparison if Hawk lost something, or CM is just that much better. The more I watched, the more it appeared that between the two, it wasn't even close in terms of talent....but that still may mean A.J. Hawk is a good player, but huge contract good?

With our needs at LB, we'd be stupid to not at least kick the tires. Especially if we don't have to give up the farm to get him...

He may be better off as a SOLB in a 4-3 defensive scheme. Dude is just not a playmaker. It'll be interesting to see what he gets on the open market. I guess that ADog is going to lose out on who the Pack is going to keep between Hawk and Barnett.

In other news, it's crazy that the second-best player in the Top 10 of the 2006 NFL draft will be Vernon Davis. Mario Williams was #1. Those might be the only two guys still with the teams who drafted them come whenever football season starts.

Umm as stated before hawk played in 90% of the GB defense schemes, so stats do not lie.

I took his statement to mean that GB had a competent offense that did not have a turnover every other possession. In terms of sheer minutes played and plays participated in, I'd imagine Lenon probably has at least a 25% increase in comparison to Hawk....
