GREEN BAY − The Green Bay Packers are reuniting with a former linebacker and key member of their special-teams units.

General manager Brian Gutekunst signed Kristian Welch, the team announced Friday. Welch, from Iola, spent the 2023 season with the Packers.

Welch started 2023 on the practice squad but was elevated to the 53-man roster in September. He appeared in 12 regular-season games and both playoff matchups. Welch finished fourth on the team with 210 special-teams reps.

Welch, who played college football at Iowa, signed with the Denver Broncos before last season. He appeared in six games with the Broncos before being released in October. Welch spent nine games with the Baltimore Ravens last fall, where he spent his first three NFL seasons.

Welch did not play a defensive snap with the Packers in 2023, but his presence on special teams could offset the departure of linebacker Eric Wilson. A core special-teamer the past three seasons, Wilson signed with the Minnesota Vikings earlier this month.
