There's a growing sense among Rams fans that the Rams will not take Jake Long at #2, based on the team's signings so far, and the fact that we have Pace and Barron.

I hope it's wrong. Pace can't stay healthy, and Barron's just not that good, is a false start machine, and I like Long.

He has missed 3 games in 2 years and the flacons already said he will carry the full load since they are talking about cutting Dunn. The ONLY team IMO who will take Connor top 10 is NE, gholston is a DE in a 4-3 and a OLB in a 3-4 and a stud any way you want to look at it, he is the best defensive player in the draft IMO the guy has it all

Norwood is about 30 pounds lighter than McFadden isn't he? He looks tiny, he sure is explosively quick but I don't think you pass on McFadden for him?

I don't think so either. Norwood can be a 3rd down back for now. Or put him in the return game...

They signed Michael Turner in free agency.

What do think about the Bruce Davis pick in the second? Will he be there?

He'll be there, but I don't like the pick. He's a pure pass rusher; he has no interest whatsoever in stopping the run. I'm not sure he'll go before the 4th round. Bruce Davis is listed 108th on The Huddle Report's "Value Board". He'd be a better third-round pick than Buster Davis was (I would be a better third round pick than Buster Davis was), but I'd be really disappointed if we got him in the second.

For comparison's sake, Davis is listed below Chevius Jackson from LSU on THR's value board. Scouts Inc. has him listed as the 7th best OLB prospect in the draft.

If you want to substitute a name, why don't you take a look at Maryland OLB Erin Henderson? 6'3", 245. Or another guy to think about is USC's DE Lawrence Jackson. Both would be acceptable value in the second round, and could contribute this year.

But, I think with the signing of LaBoy, we don't have as big a need at DE/OLB as we do at 3-4 DE/DT. We have some depth at NT between Watson and Branch. But on the outside we only have Dockett and Smith. Maybe we'll get a couple more camp bodies, but I don't want to be a high ankle sprain away from seeing 8 games of Ross Kolodezjei (or whomever). Maybe someone like NC State DT DeMarrio Pressley? The second round would be too high for him, but he may not last until our third round pick.

I'm surprised to hear Davis is ranked so low. I think he's a what a lot of 3-4 teams will be looking for--a pass rusher. Sounds like maybe the second is too high for him, but I think he'll go well before the 4th.

Eric Henderson's history of injury scares me a little. Achilles injuries are tough to come back from it seems. I like is potential, but I don't like his seeming fragility.

I tried to address our need for a DT/DE with Dotson. Thoughts on him?

Interesting.

The Huddle Report had Buster Davis rated 87th last year.

I don't know much about Dotson. Personally, I think that the DE need is strong enough that we should address it early. I don't think we have a 3rd DE on the roster right now. Was Arizona's defense any good last season?

A different mid-round DT/DE you might want to look at is Florida State's Andre Fluellen. He might be a little short for the end position, but he could be a good sub-package player.

Another prospect that I'd like to hear more about is DE Tommy Blake out of TCU. 6'3", 281, but Scouts, Inc is calling him a DE/rush OLB prospect. Last year, he was listed by Lindy's as a Top 5 DE prospect (ahead of Davis, Quentin Groves, Chris Long, and Vernon Gholston), but now THR lists him as 183rd on their value board.

Of course, last fall Blake was listed at 6'2", 250. Maybe he just got really fat?

Isn't that what you were referencing?

This is one of the things that I like about THR's system (Mitch pimped it maybe a week ago, as well). They have the "Value Board", which is where they anticipate where all the players will go. It gets updated every week or so, with the rising and falling prospects.

Their "scout" builds a separate "talent board" where he just ranks the prospects by where their talent would fall in the draft (1st round, 2nd round, etc.). Their "scout" says that he only grades the players based on game film. When there's a discrepancy between the "Value" of a player and the "talent" of the player, I kind of get nervous.

Why does everyone want that RB from East Carolina. We already drafted a small dast RB in the second round and it was a wasted pick. If we draft a RB I hope it's a bigger guy like Stewart (I think that injury info is bs).

Living in Dallas, I have seen Blake play alot. At his pro day this week he weigh 280 lbs. At TCU the kid dominated rushing the passer and chasing down RB's. He didn't play last season due to family/personal issues. I bet he slids to round 3-5. If this kid loses another 10lbs and his mind is right he could be a steal early on the second day.

I like Tommy Blake a lot. Sprting News did a great piece on him a month ago. I hope this kid makes it regardless of where he lands, but I am really hoping the Cards take a chance on this kid if he is still there in round 4 or 5.

I agree with you DC. I think DE is almost as big of a need as CB. I'd like to see Smith as backup/rotational guy. He can be very good in that role, but seems to wear down when playing alot. Still want to bring in a DE, OLB, and CB on the Defensive side and OG or OT on the offensive side.

Blake projects to a OLB in the 3-4. I think I read his normal playing weight was about 260 or so. He has Social Anxiety Disorder and when the scouts started coming to watch him play alot this past year, he withdrew (socially), and essentially quit on the team, and quit working out and got up to 285 or so.

Maybe trade down in the first??

If we could trade 1st picks with Dallas (22) we could add another 2nd rounder.

1) A. Cason CB
2a) C. Johnson RB
2b) C. Nicks / D. Brown OT
3) K. Langford DE
4) D. Pressley DT
5) E. Butler OLB
6) O. Scandrick CB
7) A. Craig OLB

Man, I would love to draft Pressley in the third round, but I don't think there's any chance he lasts that long.

Welcome to ASFN. Trade with Dallas? Bite your tongue! I'd rather eat sweetbreads and they make me gag uncontrollably.

I disagree. This draft has lots of great talent in rounds 2 - 4. I'd like to stockpile as many picks as possible in those rounds. If it means dropping down 10 or 12 spots in the first i'm all for it. If we can somehow use the 16 pick to drop down to 26 or so, and pick up an additional 2nd or 3rd, i'd be very happy.

I agree Hookem. How fantastic would it be to trade down w/ Dallas and take

1-Branden Albert - OT/OG
2a-Trevor Laws - DE
2b-Justin King - CB
3-Beau Bell - ILB
4-Kendall Langford - DE
5-Tyrell Johnson - S
6-Vince Hall - ILB
7-???

If we could pick up an additional 3rd rounder I would really like to go after Tracy Porter-CB, Josh Johnson-QB, DeMario Pressley-DE.
